I eat here every time I am in St. Augustine. Their fish come from the finest of schools! The service is great, food is award winning, and longevity of the business speaks for itself! An experience you will always remember!

Great vacation atmosphere & awesome seafood! We were able to be seated in the bar area immediately with no reservation and ordered grouper & mahi mahi. We had the 4 lobster ravioli for an appetizer and it was excellent. Perfect vacation spot!

The crab bisque was outstanding and so was the mixed drinks. The seafood sandwich was good, but I wasn't a fan. Doesn't mean it's the sandwich was prepared wrong I just didn't care for it.

This place is AMAZING. Definitely going back while I'm in St. Aug. Our waiter was Chaché, he was awesome and always checked in with us. But the food... Wow. The steak sandwich was absolutely perfect: tender steak, crispy ciabatta, and fresh crispy hot fries. We also ordered the captains special and it was perfect and so fresh. DEFINITELY go if you're in St. Aug!

My boyfriend and I didn't have to wait too long to get seated, the waitress was very polite. Once we received our food, it was hot and very delicious!!! I recommend the ultimate fish sandwich or the fried shrimp! Also a great view of you sit up top on the balcony. Overall it was great!!!

I huge thank you for making lobster raviolis special for us after the drive. Chachi or however you spell your name thanks for being so amazing and on top of your game we truly appreciate it.

Overpriced. Stay away from the tuna . I just paid 14$ for stringy sinewy Tuna app. The server gave us some lame excuse and dident take it off the bill, mind you we barely touched it . It was sitting on a bed of old soggy fried spinach . One good thing is the Datil wings , very good homemade sauce.

The food was good, the service was good, the drinks were good. We'll be back. Check out their web page for a free t-shirt coupon with $50 purchase.

Great service! The atmosphere was great and you can choose to sit inside or on the balcony. Our waiter was great and the food was spectacular. I tried the chips and grilled shrimp. It was outstanding.

Went there for dinner with my girlfriend. I had the fried seafood lover's dish. He seafood was really good and I enjoyed it. Had the grits cake on the side. Quite a delicious and unique side dish. My girlfriend had the shrimp (grilled) Alfredo. It was good but I thought my fried seafood was better. It was a good atmosphere. Too cold to enjoy outdoor seating. The staff was friend and the service was pretty good being that it was Valentine's Day dinner.

Lobster ravioli is divine! Fried shrimp was just ok. The fried pickles were blah. Service was very rushed and not very cordial. Mixed drinks are good. There was a wait but we were seated earlier than they quoted. Overall a good experience

Ok so this place was a vast improvement over the place I had gone to the day before and regretted it soooooo much (panama Hatties) Walking up to this place you know there is something completely right going on because no matter what time of day it always seems to be pretty busy The atmosphere here is very beachy relaxed they have great outdoor seating upstairs and downstairs It's very clean and neat and so are all the people that work there The service I had here was impeccable. From the time we walked in and were greater by two or three diff people to our entire meal service it was seamless. Guys were stopping by to grab our plates every time one was empty. Drinks stayed full! The food here was nothing short of perfect. My companions and I got a few diff options from apps to entrees and no one was disappointed in anything One person even said "I can't decide which one was the best" when referring to our apps We had the buffalo chicken dip, calamari, and seaside oysters I think they were called And might I say TRY THE BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP You'll be glad u did Since it was lunch I had the seafood salad melt Which was basically a grilled cheese stuffed with seafood salad comprised of crab, lobster, and whole shrimp. YUMMMM!!! My buddy had their "award winning" ribs And he proclaimed he believed every word of that title All in all a great place to grab a bite and hang out Oh and the prices were affordable

I saw all the great reviews, so I wanted to bring my group of 15 people here in March. I called today and asked the person who answered the phone if they take reservations, and she said: "No, it is first come first serve". . I said what about for a group of 15? She states, "No, its first come first serve, this IS our busy season." Maybe a customer service class should be mandated. I guess they are too busy for a group of 15...

Nice, friendly staff with excellent food and interesting craft beers. The shrimp and grits was terrific, a twist on the traditional dish. Kudos to Jacksonville for a really nice locally brewed wheat beer. Would definitely return.

I've enjoyed the service, atmosphere, steamed oysters, and all the entrees every time I've been here! The sweet tea is a great southern style sweet tea which I loooove. I have to say we keep coming back for the beautiful outside seating and great oysters.

Outstanding meal. Crab bisque was best I have ever had. Coconut shrimp was excellent, as was the Ultimate Seaford Salad.

We are staying directly across the street so this was a convenient place to stop for dinner. Service was fast and friendly and food was delicious. Highly recommended.

Boy do I feel discredited and trashed by the owners response to my review of the Sunset Grille. He gives being gracious new meaning. He makes it sound like it was my fault the food was unacceptable because I didn't complain about it. Why should I HAVE to complain? Isn't it his responsibility to make sure everything coming out of his kitchen is of the highest quality? He stated he has a policy that they will immediately recook, replace, or remove any item a guest is not satisfied with. That implies there have been other complaints about their food if they have to have a policy specific to food complaints.

We ate here 2 times on our vacation in St. Augustine Beach. It was good!!! First time we had the Crab Bisque, Clam Chowder french fries and spinach/artichoke/crab dip with tortilla chips... DELICIOUS!!! The crab bisque was sooooo good... So was the dip... and those french fries with Clam chowder were MMMMMMM!!! Wish I had some now.... The second time it was so packed that we sat at the bar and ate there... Had a mixed drink (some type of martini) it was delicious. Don't remember the name. And we ordered the Crab Fondue which was good but it was too much... Carb overload... Would be good to order with a party of 4 or 5 to share. Delicious... I will definitely come back to this spot when I'm in the area and will rec'd this place to others... :)

Great menu and lots of outdoor seating. And pet-friendly. Steak salad and shrimp and grits were very good with more than ample portions. Key Lime pie was spectacular. Great service and they accommodated our big dog. Very close to beach and lots of parking.

Best appetizer ever - Chowder Fries!!!! My wife enjoyed the Sunset Grouper! Reasonably priced and nice portions! If the weather is good (and it was) we suggest sitting under the stars on the new deck. A great place on A1A Beach Blvd

Wonderful dinner with he hubby and parents while on vacation. We all ordered different meals and all were wonderful! I had the Shrimp Lovers dinner, mom had coconut shrimp, hubby had a fishermans platter and dad had a pasta with shrimp and scallops. Food portions were large but flavorful and prices were reasonable with the most expensive being $19.99. We thought that was reasonable for fresh quality seafood that was expertly prepared. We were initially told there would be a 45 min wait to sit inside but got seated in about 20 minutes. Just an FYI that outside seating on the first level is seat yourself; the upstairs outside deck has a separate wait list and hostess, so head up the steps if you want to sit up there. We had to wait about 30 min for our good but considering it was a Saturday night and this place was hopping, we really didn't mind. Check it out if you're in the area!

My husband and I highly recommend the ultimate fish sandwich. We are from New England and always skeptical about seafood, but have been back 3 times in the last few weeks for the same meal! Service is friendly and enjoyable, and particularly appreciate the Manager Rob's help in finding golf courses and lessons.

Since this place was directly across the street from our hotel (Hampton Inn), we ended up eating here twice for lunch. Was great to be able to sit outside in the sun. Food was really good - first time I had the Mahi Ensalada (relish!) and the second time I had the Coconut shrimp (good too!). This place is a must visit while staying in St Augustine!

Made some new friends at the Conch House. After hours of dancing to reggae and soca we were all ready to eat. I was the only one in the group that had never been to the Grille so we drove the few miles out towards the beach. Great location and the weather was so nice we decided to eat upstairs on the deck. Nice ocean breeze as we chatted with our friendly waitress. Gave me the feel of Fort Lauderdale. This has to be the best seafood on the beach. I was picking off everyone's plate and everything was fantastic. The portions are also huge. Thankfully I ordered a 1/2 order of the Lobster Ravioli - but left overs would have been nice as well. Seared Scallops - so fresh and the spinach was delicious Fried Calamari - This was my least favorite of the items, a little chewy. New England Clam Chowder - My friend from Maryland give this a huge thumbs up. Crab Bisque - very hearty and filled with shredded crab meat. Lobster Ravioli - lobster, crab, and shrimp all on one late with a huge sweet role. HEAVEN! Coconut Shrimp - nicely fried without being greasy - found the sauce diabetic sweet though Ceasar salad - huge fresh and crisp Sweet tea - nice and sweet After all this food no one had room for dessert. But they definitely made me a new fan. This is definitively the best place to eat on the beach. Only downside of eating on the deck is after getting so full, you're told the bathroom is downstairs.

This restaurant is one of my favorites to go to on the beach. After a long beach day this place is perfect to go and eat. The foods great but the service, not so much. After have going there a couple times, we say outside so maybe that's why. But the waitress just seemed like we weren't there. We had to get random employes walking around to get our waitress. But it makes up for the food. They have an awesome award winning chowder. Defiantly recommend that.

I'm only giving one star, because Yelp made me. I'm subtracting it right now though!!! This place was alright before it was remodeled, but geeze, if you're going to remodel, TRAIN YOUR STAFF. The hostess seated us, that was fine, started looking at the menu, they jacked the prices up! We decided to stay, we wanted to eat and get home. Some where around the time when it gets weird that no one has even taken the drink order an overly aggressive server walks up and I kid you not said "what do you want?"............ NO NAME OR WELCOME OR EVEN A "Can I take your drink order?" Nope. Almost losing it I decided to keep my cool, I asked for water and he just walked away. Thinking to myself, "uh... So am I going to get the water or does that mean I should leave?" I left. I will NOT be back. And I assure you that if the nameless guy stays there he will drag you down too. Employees need to wear name tags, but he was so awful, I'm sure the servers already know who he is! PS: this means you have ZERO STARS from me.

Right across the street from our hotel so we stopped in for a quick bite. Quick, efficient, and friendly service. I had the mahi mahi salad which is huge! It came with greens, corn, beans, rice, and tortilla chips. It was so so good, but I could barely eat half of it. There was already so much flavor I didn't even need the dressing. You can also choose the mahi to be blackened or substitute for chicken. My coworker ordered the ultimate seafood salad with crab, lobster, shrimp tossed in lobster roll sauce on mixed greens. He was it was very delicious. Both salads came with soft, warm bread.

Don't trust the hours listed on the website. They close whenever they feel like it. We came in 1.5 hours before the posted closing time of 11, and we were greeted with a "late-night" menu (at 9:30pm) and a whole lot of passive-aggressive attitude. The food was nothing special. Go eat somewhere that wants your business.

I loved Sunset Grille! The location is good and everything but i think what really matters is the food! I had the Maui Wowie Mahi Sandwhich which comes with crunchy fries and it was honestly the most satisfying fish sandwhich i've ever had. my mom had the ribs with fries and rice and beans and she was more than satisfied as well, the meat practically fell of the bone and it was clear that it was well cooked. definitely a st. Augustine favorite.

Really enjoyed our meal here. Great view if the action on A1A if you sit on the upstairs balcony. I highly recommend the seafood salad. yum yum! no gluten free menu but there are options that are gluten free. Friendly efficient service. Will definitely come back next time we visit st augustine!

I ate dinner at the bar last night. The staff was very friendly, as where the locals. I ate the blackened cobia (jerk style) served with a house salad, red beans and rice, and veggies. The combination of flavors was amazing! The bartender makes a great gin and tonic too.

We were in St. Augustine for a wedding and after a long drive stopped here for lunch. The setting is very quirky and cute. We were seated quickly and I ordered the Seafood Salad Melt "Our new seafood salad includes lobster, shrimp and crab meat and is served on a grilled ciabatta bun with melted cheese. $12.99". It was soo tasty and a good sized meal. The bathroom was only for one person at a time which was a bit odd due to the size of this place.

We were recommended to come here while vacationing in St. Augustine. We were greeted when we first entered the restaurant and our server was out of this world. He told us what was good, what he ate, and what he preferred. The restaurant is known for their clam chowder so I had to try some. The hubby and I shared it and LOVED it. It was the first time I had ever had clams. I ordered fish tacos, and the hubby ordered a grilled cheese burger. My tacos were AMAZING and the hubby LOVED his burger. If you are visiting St. Augustine you should definitely try this place out.

Got a recommendation for a guy on the peir for this spot. I wish I could buy him a beer! We had 8 people, including 4 kids and all were very happy, which is unheard of! The fish dishes were very good. They also produce their own datyl pepper sauce which we found to be a great compliment to the smoked fish spread. Really, everything was A+. Bring a light jacket as it was a bit chilly inside. Regardless, give this a try. Great staff and food.

If you're out past 10pm and need somewhere to eat in St Augustine, this place fits the bill. Fiance and I tried this place our first night on vacation, and it was simply perfect. We loved our waiter, and the runner/other waiter assisting him. Shrimp was deeee-licious! We went again tonight, and eh. It was okay. Upon arriving, we tried to go upstairs to be told immediately it was closed which was fine, but then we sat outside for 10 minutes...no one ever came, so we went and got a table inside. Waited another five minutes before someone finally took our drink order. If not for being confined to a hotel room and not wanting pizza again, we probably would have left. The guy who finally waited on us (someone different took our drink order) was nice enough, but pretty scarce. Luckily, we didn't need much. We both ordered the linguine with clam sauce, and once it got cool enough to eat, it was an enjoyable dish. The portion was very generous, so Fiance had plenty to leave him full and I had enough for lunch the next day. Overall, alright. If we vacation here again, I'm not sure if we would have this be our first option, just because of the inconsistency.

Out for a nice-weather fun drive and wound up going through St. Augustine after hitting the distillery there. Were going to hit one of our favorite places, the A1A Alehouse but someone mentioned it was closed (it isn't), but I was in the wrong lane to get over so we proceeded over the bridge south and saw this place and said why not. It had some good reviews on Yelp and the reviews are spot on for the most part. The conch/clam chowder mix was very good - it actually had both in there (some places seem to wave the clams over the broth). I had the wings, no breading just deep fried. My only issue is with the heat. Every place I have ever gone too says their hot is really hot and it never is - at least for me, and this held true there as well. Luckily they had some habanero-tabasco sauce on the table, so I could get the heat index up a notch. The beers and cocktails were good and not too high in cost. Overall a good place. As others have mentioned, going there hungry is going to drive you crazy because the menu has a lot of tempting items that all sounded good. Sat upstairs on the deck and had a great sea breeze and cooler temps (70s) so it was a great day. Worth the stop; we'll be back

My sister and I had supper at Sunset Grille on Wednesday, 4/22. We wanted to sit upstairs so there was a short wait (about 15 minutes). Our waiter arrived promptly after we were seated and took our drink orders right away. My sister had eaten there before and recommended the Sunset Grille Shrimp and Scallops (it's a pasta dish). I was torn between the Shrimp and Grits or Grouper, but settled on the Shrimp and Scallops. OMG, it is fabulous!! Since we were both having that, we got the double order. The kitchen split it for us. Dinners come with two sides, but if you get the double order, each person gets one side -- which is still gracious plenty food! My sister got the Grit Cakes and I got cole slaw. The slaw was fairly ordinary, which was no problem because I had so much pasta! I tasted of one of her grit cakes and, while I am a huge grits fan, I didn't care for this. The taste was OK, but the texture was odd. I was expecting grits and got something closer to cornbread. Service was great; food arrived promptly and hot. Food was wonderful. We left with go boxes and my sister had two more meals from the left-overs. I would definitely go back!!

I came here for lunch on a Saturday and Dinner on a Sunday. Two times in one week; it must be good! It sure was. After spending the day at the beach it was time for a late lunch before heading into town for my friend's wedding. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich; it even had an onion ring on it! Score. I love onion rings. Their fries are delicious and so crispy! I recommend ordering just a side of their fries. You won't regret it. The other members of my group ordered a seafood salad (which was delicious and had real lobster pieces in it) and a chicken pita. The pita was huge and tasted fresh! Good choices all around. The service was okay, not great. I ran out of water and had to wait a few minutes before I could get the attention of our server for a refill. What I will say is that we wanted to see the MLS game and it was nice that we could get a server to change a tv for us to see the game. Thanks for that! For dinner it was packed! We arrived the night of the tropical storm and I think everyone else did too! We had to wait about 20 minutes, which wasn't terrible. Our server was good and the dinner menu was so appetizing. We ordered some wings as an appetizer, they were delicious! Oh, and get this...they had 3 cheese macaroni and cheese with Lobster! Two of my favorite things! How could I not order it? When it came out to the table it was massive! Seriously, it could have fed 3 people. I ate as much as I could but still needed a box and got 2 more meals out of it! It sure was tasty though. If you are near the beach and looking for something delicious Sunset Grill is a great spot. They have a full bar and their menu items are really delicious! On a nice day you can even sit outside and enjoy the weather. The place is huge and they have an awesome upstairs area as well. I could tell a lot of tourists come here, but I noticed some locals sitting at the bar. I'm glad we went here and I think you'll enjoy it as well. I know some of the reviews on Yelp are discouraging, but just try it and see for yourself!

Great food, good waiter with a sense of humor. We would definitely go back the next time we are "somewhere on A1A". We hit a home run with this choice.

  • Sheila M.

Food was okay but the staff not so much. Our waitress lacked personality and interest in her job. The hostesses could've been a little nicer to people as well. The food is pricier than what it's worth. They put it together well but it lacks any special taste. One older waitress made ppl get up from the table they sat in because they didn't go to the hostess stand first. The place was emptying out so they could've stayed but you could tell the waitress didn't want any more people in her section so she could go home. Then she was loudly fixing a highchair while sitting in an empty booth. Very annoying. Won't be returning.

We stopped in here for dinner on a recent trip after advice from a friend. Boy was this place packed. Luckily, we were able to find a table for ourselves outside to sit at which was nice because it was a lovely evening out. Our waitress was good and very friendly and the atmosphere was definitely very beach party. The menu items were average in price ranging from around 14-30 dollars depending on what you ordered and were kind of all over the place. We had a couple of appetizers. The mozzarella sticks were pretty freezer food variety, but the Diablo Nacho dip was excellent. A couple of our party had the clam chowder which was very tasty. I decided to order the Shrimp and Grits they posted as having won an award for that very day. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out why. The shrimp was drowning in a very garlicky tomato sauce. The grits were bricks of grits rolled in breading and deep fried which made them heavy and dry and very unappetizing. I did hear the Steak St. Augustine was good from a couple of people at our table. I'll probably give the place another try at some point, but overall, it wasn't very impressive. I'm also not very fond of any restaurant that charges an 18% gratuity automatically for a party of 5 or more, especially when they don't mention it up front.

Pete did reach out to make our experience more memorable and correct the issues we had. We exchanged numerous emails with very detailed info including when we visited, what specifically was ordered, and who our server was. I let him know that although it was great to hear from him, it didn't change our experience. I increased one star for his communication because I appreciated him taking the time to address our experience.

Took a cruise out of Jacksonville and stayed in St. Augustine for a night before driving home. For us, our last vacation dinner at Sunset Grille was the highlight of the entire week. In fact, it was the best meal we've eaten out in years--and we eat out a lot. Everything about the place was outstanding. Great atmosphere, excellent service and food that was so expertly prepared and seasoned that my picky husband, who is himself a wonderful cook, couldn't find one thing he would have changed. We both had the great clam chowder and shared the crab, spinach and artichoke dip. All the seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection. I had the lobster ravioli and he ordered the lobster mac and cheese. The sauce on the ravioli was creamy and full of flavor. His mac and cheese bubbled out over the sides of the bowl onto the plate underneath. For dessert, his key lime pie had just the right amount of tartness and my s'mores brownie was decadent and could have easily been shared. An amazing, gourmet meal at a reasonable price given the quality and amount of food. Would return to St. Augustine for this place alone.

My husband and I wanted to eat here soo bad for our wedding, to share the awesomeness with our family. Sunset Grille was very accommodating to our party of 15. And to think we stressed about not being able to eat there for weeks. Thank you Sunset Grille and our awesome server who took great care of us. We will definitely be coming back.

We came in time for the late night menu which was small but really good food choices! We just got engaged and the waitress was super sweet and the manager even came over to congratulate us...completely unexpected and so sweet! They even gave us t-shirts to remember the fact that we came here after we got engaged! Definitely will be returning when we come back to visit!

Ribs were to sweet for me. If I were to order this again I would see if I could have the BBQ sauce on the side. The friend shrimp is the best I have ever eaten. Be sure to go to the left side of the restaurant to be seated. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful. I would highly recommend this place to eat.

  • Bryan W.

Food is great here, but the price is way to high considering the market and good restaurants around. The owner is some loud mouth Italian guy who acts like the jersey shore punks. He started swearing at me when I ate at the bar because a song came on and he was yelling out his own made up lyrics that were degrading to the women in the area. I simply told him it was inappropriate to say out loud and he called me every name in the book. Go elsewhere!

Just home from an early dinner. We had three generations and all came away happy. Wife was very happy with the sunset shrimp and scallop. Grandma and I both were pleased: she with a couple of skewers of shrimp and I with the mango mahi. The Ahi tuna app was a bit dull, although the presentation was beautiful. Kids enjoyed Mac n cheese, but weren't as crazy by the butterflied shrimp (not quite the same shape as they're used to). We'd come back. The outside dinner area is large and the rooftop probably has a good view. Alas, it was cold (50s) when we were there and the sections were closed.

The crab fondue, crab bisque, and drinks are fantastic. I ate here one night for a wedding rehearsal dinner then went back the next afternoon to have the fondue again but unfortunately found out it's only served for dinner. :( I was bummed because we were only in town for a couple of days. Highly recommend this place!

Wow I was amazed how good the burgers are here. Wow. I am not a eat your whole burger girl but I ate every last bite and it was a 1/2 lb! The fries were so fresh with a batter or something on the outside which made them so crisp and soft and yummy warmness I on the inside. Also had the coconut shrimp and it had no fishy taste totally fresh with the most delicious puna cola da dip wow! I was so impressed. Must eat place.

They said it would be about 35 minute wait on this Friday night, ended up being 15-20. Cute and friendly waitstaff, I had the macadamia nut crusted fresh mahi mahi and I have to say it's the best mahi I can remember eating! Large portion with 2 sides for $23. Great place, lots of outdoor seating as well!

Loved the coconut shrimp and the jalapeno dip that came with it!!!! My MauiMaui sandwhich (called something special can't remember) was AWEOMSE! Biggest piece of fish ever in this little sand which... got it blackened. Almost couldn't finish it! Will be back if we ever come back to St. Augustine.

Great place overlooking the ocean. The food is good and it's always consistent so I can't complain but the real reason to come is the view. I love to sit on the deck and enjoy the breeze on a hot day. The staff has always been friendly and the food comes out fast. This is a great beachside restaurant.

What a great spot to enjoy dinner. Bobbie , our server , was awesome in providing information about the specials and answering all of our questions. I tried the blackened grouper and it was exquisite in flavor and cooked to perfection covered in a delicious shrimp cream sauce. My wife tried the shrimp and scallop pasta dish that was to die for. We are definitely returning for another meal , hopefully when it's sunny so we can dine on the upper level , outside enjoying the wonderful vista of the Atlantic Ocean .

Crab bisque- was good. Creamy, smooth, good amount crab. New England clam- white has bacon.(New England Clam is not supposed to have bacon, breaking a cardinal food rule there) Kind of touristy themed location. Food was alright, but wouldn't say memorable. I had some trouble with the fish sandwich, but could have been my stomach and not the food. Giving a middle rating to be fair.

Went with a couple of friends for lunch/dinner at about 3:30pm on a Friday...Had a burger, because most of the fish wasn't all that local. We wanted pasta dishes, but we were told that menu hadn't started yet and "because of the line set-up in the kitchen"??? I don't understand that at all. It's almost dinner time -- make an effort to accommodate. At least go back to the kitchen and "pretend" to ask. The food average to below average. The water glasses were dirty and the lemon on the side had a small hair on mine. My coffee cup was dirty too...and the coffee, not even close to a good cup--tasted burnt and you could taste the paper filter. Perhaps an investment in a good coffee maker. The burger...okay but really didn't taste like it was advertised -- A1A burger with Vidalia onions. I tasted pickles, but I couldn't taste a Vidalia onion anywhere on my plate? Now, I don't mind paying ~$10.00 for a good burger and fries, it was 1/2 lbs, but when it doesn't taste like what you ordered -- huge food problem! Tourist trap, over priced, not enough "local fare," not a simple menu, beach atmosphere, if you like that. The staff not all that interested in serving the customer...Just looking for the tip. Maybe it's better on the weekend? Really for the price of what you're paying it doesn't match the food quality or the service. Sorry, but I can't recommend -- mediocre service, food, and atmosphere. You'll get a better deal at Long Horn. A Gordon Ramsey makeover would work best for this restaurant! And, please take my word for it...Italian's have a passion for food, so when a restaurant doesn't have passion in their food or service -- it shows. I want to add this. It's now Sunday, and I was personally contacted by the staff at the Sunset Grille. I was impressed with this gesture. It proves that some of the employees really do care about the quality of service offered at their restaurant. This gives me hope that, although, a bit of a sting in the review, that they are willing to contact the customer and make internal adjustments to their product line and services. Thank you Lori.

I love this place! The lobster mac and cheese is killer along with everything else I've tried here. Awesome in every way :) somewhere on A1A !

Great meal! Just good, old fried seafood and couldn't have asked for better. Service was great - very upbeat and energetic. We loved it!

I do want to preface this review with the fact that Sunset Grille was one day away from being closed for a month for renovations. That being said, if I'm going to be charged full-price I expect the same level of service and food quality regardless of future plans. Let's start with the positives 1) There was no waiting for a table (this should have been a dead giveaway) 2) Our server, Jess was very attentive 3) Our booth had two flat-screen TV's to watch the Texas A&M vs. Mizzou game. 4) Both the Jerk Shrimp and Shrimp Platter were tasty according to the two college football players who ordered them. Although they both said (and I agree) two skewers of shrimp is hardly a platter. Red Lobster beats out Sunset Grille on the portions/price-point ratio. And onto what I didn't like 1) Everything, and I mean everything, tasted mass-produced. I'm not sure this is the case, but I assure you nothing tasted fresh. 2) The "Award-Winning Soups" tasted bland and over-salted. While they were OK, I was expecting more out of an award-winning soup. 3) I ordered the Sunset Shrimp and Scallops because it's description was very similar to the shrimp and scallops Capone I loved so much at the Stockyard in Boston (Stockyards version is plentiful with fresh shrimp and scallops. The fresh vegetables were complimented by perfectly cooked penne pasta with a TRUE touch of cream sauce), I assure you, Sunset Grille's wasn't even close. Their menu description reads; "Shrimp and scallops sautéed with garlic, white wine, pesto, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, scallions and parsley, tossed with mozzarella, Parmesan and a touch of cream over penne pasta". In reality the dish was swimming in bland, canned (tasting) cream sauce. The shrimp and scallops were scarce and the ones that were there tasted frozen and over-cooked. The penne pasta was also over cooked and the considering the dish was advertised as being loaded with vegetables, they too were scarce and were anything but fresh. 4) My niece ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo that too was swimming in a flavor-deprived cream sauce. 5) My wife had the "Award-Winning Baby Back Ribs" and although they were the best entree on the table, I don't know if I'd consider them award-winning. I guess it depends on the competition that day. 6) There were a couple other dishes that our party of seven order and I got a small taste of just about everyone's meals and for the most part, the quality was consistent. Yelp has never steered me wrong in the past. Which is why I'm so disappointed. I feel that the kitchen staff just didn't care much about their product since they were a day away from closing the doors for a month due to renovation. Unfortunately, this is the worst $155 I've ever spent and I do not plan on returning.

Fast, good, friendly and affordable!!! Yes, it's a holiday weekend, yes it is beach season. Yes it is Florida!! But the prices were reasonable and the food top notch!!! Mike the owner came right out and said hello to me and my group of 13!!! Staff was accurate and in point with everything!!! I strongly recommend this place for anyone to come and enjoy good tasty food and a good price in a warm friendly environment!!!

Excellent place for a good meal and fun. We have had dinner there twice this weekend. The three chowder s they have are very good, fish bytes were excellent. The wings are outstanding, and thenfish n' chips was good too. Service is great and the food came out very fast both nights

Amazing food. Got the shrimp plater. Amazing service and the food came fast. Love the out door deck, my dad got the shrimp tacos and we got the coconut shrimp. Great view and the fresh fish was amazing.

Tried Sunset Grille for an early lunch on a Sunday with my husband. We seated ourselves and service was fast and friendly. Inside was clean and welcoming. Wooden booths were slightly uncomfortable and small but they had plenty of cushioned chairs and tables if one prefers those. My husband got the seafood platter blackened, although it is listed as fried on the menu, with fries and corn. Excellent blackening seasoning and the scallops, shrimp and fish were cooked just right. I got the mahi tacos and it came with black beans and rice. Super yummy! I appreciated actually getting a good chunk of mahi in my tacos instead of the barely there that other places give. Overall, we were very happy with Sunset Grille and will return.

Sever Danielle in bar area was excellent. Let us sample the soups before deciding. Split one meal in two on separate plates as we were sharing. Gave us an additional bowl of beans and rice. When I casually mentioned my Dad and I were celebrating his birthday for the next 3 days she unexpectedly brought an on the house brownie tower with a never expiring candle. The owner, I believe, brought it over to out table with her. Very unexpected and an amazing start to our trip. Food was excellent! Loved the soup and fish tacos!

3 words...Key Lime Pie....a slice of heaven ! The blackened shrimp was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. My friend had the Sunset Salad with Blackend Mahi Mahi, and ordered a 2nd one to go...it was that good. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive.

We walked here from our moderately priced hotel on a gorgeous night. We sat upstairs to enjoy the sea breeze. We split a buffalo chicken dip which was piping hot out of the oven and had a couple generous signature cocktails. For mains I had the steak salad and my request for rare was honored. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth good. My handsome companion had the fish and chips. It was one giant slab of nicely done fish and some well seasoned potato wedges. Our server was fun and checked on us just enough.

Good food and prices. The ribs were falling off the bone and i needed to a fork...so tender and the bbq was awesome! Go early to avoid long wait....which we did and it worked out well.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We started off our meal with an order of crab legs that were really tasty. I ordered the Ultimate Steak Sandwich and it was by far the best steak sandwich I have ever eaten. My boyfriend's burger was tasty as well. I also had a strawberry daiquiri with my meal that was delicious. I would highly recommend dining here if you want a mix of seafood and casual food. Additionally, the view isn't too bad either.

Had lunch yesterday and it was fantastic. The service was fantastic, and the entire place was very clean, including the deck. This is in contrast to many of the decks in Flagler Beach which are dirty and in need of service (Golden Lion). On to the food. We had heard about the award winning chowders, and they were to die for. We would go back for this alone. Next came our Mahi sandwich's which were so large we could not finish them. It had a beautiful piece of fish. It was one of the few places we have gone that was a real pleasure, and we can not wait to go back. Worth the drive, you wont be disappointed. Visit was 4/7/15

  • Shane M.

Pretty good. The food was above average (I had the crab bisque and seafood pizza) and the atmosphere was decent. The biggest issue was the 5-10 minutes after being seated upstairs before someone I. The party had to go find a hostess to let them know we hadn't seen a server yet. She eventually came and was very friendly. Overall good place.

Great meal! Fish tacos were tasty. Worth a visit. Portion size was pretty good, nice atmosphere and noise level was not too loud. Right across from the beach, so it was easy to take a stroll in the sand after our meal. A few miles from the historic section of St. Augustine, but worth finding it

    (4)
  • Brian H.

Just outside of St Augustine this place is a nice little get away of its own. Located on A1A, the restaurant has a patio on the roof providing a nice view of the beach on the east and the sunset on the west while you eat. The food delicious and well worth the wait. It was a busy night, we waited about 20 minutes to be seated, and maybe another 15-20 minutes to get our food but the staff was very polite and checked on us during the wait. I would recommend the buffalo chicken dip while you wait.

A convenient place right on another side of road where inns locate. It means I can drink with my dad and not concern about driving. Food here is good. We ordered raw and cooked oysters, Sunset wings, St Augustine steak, and pastas. They all taste good. By the way, Laura is one of the sweetest waitresses I have ever met. She was busy, but she kept smiling and making everything in order.

It is a tough place to get into, both in terms if waiting and parking. We went with a carry out option. Fried shrimp (awesome), seared mahi tuna on bed of rice/pine nuts ( very good). We will be back.

Great and upstairs outdoor seating. They are not lying about there clam chowder. I let the server talk me into a fish sandwich compilation supreme extravaganza and it was really good. Salads were fresh and pretty. I would def eat here again.

I was skeptical to try yet another restaurant by the beach serving American food, but was pleasantly surprised by what we found. The food was fresh and delicious. They accommodated food allergies and vegetarians very well. Our waitress was great and not hard to flag down. The only problem is its popularity - a 35 minute wait on a Tuesday was unexpected. But overall it was fantastic. Will definitely go here again

Sunset Grille rocks. Plain and simple. It's located on A1A across from the Hampton Inn where we stayed. It doesn't look like much from the outside but we were quickly seated outside per our request and the food rocked. I got the ultimate seafood salad which had fresh crab, lobster, shrimp with a greek olive oil dressing and my best friend had a chicken sandwich (may have been a wrap) and we were both happy with our meals. The calamari as an appetizer is always a must. I'd go back again in an instant. Reasonable in cost, good service and great food!

My wife and I along with our friends from the "Isle of Man" dined at this restaurant last week. My wife had been there before in 2011 and enjoyed what she ordered so it seemed a good bet. The best part of the entire meal was the New England Clam Chowder from there the quality of our entree's and dessert were disappointing. My wife had the Sunset Grouper (overcooked and dry) and the shrimp and crab sauce was very bland. I ordered the Sunset Shrimp & Scallops here is the description from the menu "Shrimp and scallops sautéed with garlic, white wine, pesto, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, scallions and parsley, tossed with mozzarella, Parmesan and atouch of cream over penne" Sounds great right? 90% of the dish was penne DROWNED in the sauce the scallops were very good and the shrimp were NOT. Our dinner guests had the "Ultimate Fish" and the "All American Burger" and the burger seemed to be the most satisfying. So we try the "Ultimate Brownie" per the recommendation of our server "Heather" ...the brownie tasted most like a flourless chocolate cake and NO....NO Ice Cream to compliment the HOT chocolate brownie. Heather told us that they don't carry ICE CREAM............. So for $95.00 before tip this was not worth the coinage spent. I have had very tasty and very satisfying meals for the same price in St. Augustine. so yes "I've had better" is my review. Date of dine April 2, 2014 at 8:30 p.m.

Not impressed with the coconut shrimp I had last night. Over-cooked, didn't taste fresh, more like frozen, loaded baked potato was the worst with the cheese sauce they use. I guess my other side which was the sweet corn tasted the best and I'm sure that was frozen too. Not impressed. Would only go back for a beer or drinks.

Vacationing after Memorial Day, this was our first night in St. Augustine. My daughter insisted on a seafood dinner. Unfortunately, our options were limited because we decided to dine late evening. I chose Sunset because it looked family friendly and the reviews were pretty good. Big mistake!!! Not a place for children after a certain hour and my daughter is 15. We were seated immediately on the outside patio. The food was fair, forgettable at best. We ordered steamed shrimp, steamed crab & the Fish & Chips. The shrimp was overcooked and the fish was dry. Nothing special there. I really enjoyed the service. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. However, during our meal a couple decided to step outside and began smoking cigarettes directly next to us. Ruined our meal with their loud, inappropriate conversation. Another group of patrons were BLASTING the jukebox. Loved the song, hated the volume. Sunset appears to be perfect for an adult dinner experience. We definitely will not try Sunset for a family dinner again.

Always great. I've sampled a lot from the menu and everything has been stellar. The bar area is nice if you're throwing a few back and the other dining areas are great if you are having a bite with the fam. The fish tacos were delish and the burgers are big and juicy and COOKED CORRECTLY

This is the best seaside restaurant I have ever been to. The food is amazing. The atmosphere is even better and the staff is very friendly. It's been a year since I was down there to eat and I don't remember what I had but it was a great experience for myself and my wife. If there are business owners out there that want to know how dining near the ocean is done visit this place!!

Delicious! My husband & I started with the oyster appetizer which was incredibly unique & scrumptious! Then my husband had the lobster ravioli & I had the 1 1/2 lbs of snow crab legs, all marvelous!!!!! We definitely recommend & will be back!

Maybe it was a mistake to order a burger at a seafood restaurant, but the food was just okay. My husband ordered mahi mahi and also thought it was just okay. One kid was very happy with the grilled cheese. The chicken tenders were deemed okay. Overall, I wished we had went somewhere else.

This place is just GOOD. There's nothing like leaving a Reggae Sunday at the Conch House with a belly full of beer and no food, so that's why you go to Sunset Grille. It's always a lively crowd in there and the employees are friendly locals. As everyone in here might be local, you won't feel like one "unwelcomed" local, but then again that's the friendliness of St. Aug for ya! Start with the Diablo Dip- UHMUHGAWD you could practically drink it.. and you just might. This beach and cheese dip comes out piping hot and you won't mind the heat blisters you'll give yourself from not waiting until it cools down! I had the Mahi Melt which you can't go wrong with when it's served on a soft ciabatta bun. It's so unreal how the options on this menu are never ending and everything is delicious. If you're as much of a firecracker, like me, you might ask for them to blacken your seafood a little extra than usual, but other than that everything comes out as it. Go enjoy yourself "Somewhere on A1A"!

Ate outside as the wait was 45+ minutes. Great service, affordable beer...and are the best chowder and I got it on top of fries (under apps), it was life changing and I am now craving it like a pregnant woman craves pickles and ice cream.

So it's 8PM, my fiance' just finished engagement photos as a giant storm was rolling in. Our photographer (a local) recommended stopping here for a couple beers and wouldn't you know it, no sooner did we get in our cars to drive there the sky opened up and it poured. The Sunset Grille has a nice covered patio that you can eat and drink on and still stay dry, it has a very laid back vibe and the foods good. Expect typical bar food and few seafood dishes. Lobster ravioli was pretty good as were the wings. The staff was very attentive and friendly.

I ate the grilled shrimp it was probably the worst shrimp I have ever ate. It was dried and had no seasoning. They said it was because they had to make it gluten free but I know salt, pepper, butter, and almost every seasoning is gluten free. It took an hour and a half to get our food. The only good thing was we got a free pen and the scallopes and drinks were okay. There are a lot of better restaurants in the area just keep looking.

  • Michelle M.

If your looking for a tourist trap.... this is it. Our waiter was great. However, the service was extremely slow and the food was okay. Nothing amazing. The scallops were good... a little more seasoning would have been great. Someone at my party had to send shrimp back because it was extremely over cooked. It's a nice place if the food was better and the service was quicker it would have been a nice dinner.

Some of the best seafood and service we had at the beach was here at Sunset Grill somewhere off A1A. This past weekend as Tropical Storm Beryl was barreling down on the beach we made our way a few blocks to Sunset Grille where we grabbed a table outside on the covered patio where enjoyed way too many drinks of Sweetwater 420 and Grey Goose before the storm ran us into the bar area where I our server from outside found us a table. While we were enjoying our drinks and the storm we tried the Crab Fondue for an appetizer that was the total bomb. What is that not to love about crab meat, cheese, and crab legs hanging out of a bread bowl! After we moved inside our waiter had to give up our table to the waitress working inside that also took very good care of us, but just wasn't as cool as the waiter we had outside. We hated that our original waiter lost our table and tipped him very well before transferring over the check to the new waitress. She did take very good care of us though and made sure to keep our beers and cocktails flowing during dinner. Dinner arrived and we were very pleased by our meals. I had the coconut shrimp that was absolutely delicious! The girls at the table both had crab legs and our other friend had the sea bass; all of which they said they thoroughly enjoyed. By the time dinner was over I didn't want move as I was in a state of total food coma intoxication. I just wanted to lay down right there and take a nap, but the place was packed out and there were people wanting the table, so we totally played favorites and let a two couples next to us have our table when we got up. All in all, the Sunset Grille is awesome and I totally recommend it when in St. Augustine at the beach. We even got a couple of free t-shirts after dinner; which I guess was being such great customers.

If you're staying on A1A on the beach and need to get some food and drinks and then stumble back to your hotel room, this is pretty much the only place to go. I had the fried fish sandwich with fries, and while it didn't knock me out of my chair it was exactly what I expected from a place like this. The drinks were reasonable, and the waitress (can't remember her name but she has a Jersey accent and is from CT) was very attentive and fun! Points for the giant poster of Tim Tebow on the cover of SI.

We have eaten here twice this week and the Mahi sandwich. Maui Wowie is awesome!! The fish was very fresh and the slaw on top was fantastic. Sit upstairs where there is a nice breeze even when it is hot outside. They have a nice kid's menu too.

Won't be back. Went here to eat with hubby, sister, and brother-in-law for some "adult time". We weren't in a hurry and it still took forever. They waited so long to even acknowledge our existence we almost left. By the time they showed to get our drink order we already had our food order ready too. Drinks took FOREVER and food took even longer. My hubby thought maybe our waitress was tipsy. The only reason I give 2 stars instead of none is because the food was ok when we finally did get it. Nothing spectacular but ok. I still don't understand the wait because it wasn't busy but never again.

This is our second time we made a visit here and this one was just as enjoyable as the first! We had great service and the food was delicious. I had the blackened chicken sandwich with onion rings and fries. Chicken was delicious, not dry, and blackened just right. My husband said he had one of the best burgers he has had in a long time. The portions are large and well worth what you pay for them. We will visit Sunset grille again on our next visit to St Augustine.

Ok, another rec gone bad. This place was way out on A1A, past the touristy old St. Augustine downtown. I only went because a coworker told me it was "the best crab I've ever had." Rolled up, thought it might be a biker bar. We were greeted warmly though and seated in a wooden booth. The decor is very casual as you would expect for the beach. Of course, we opened up with the crab legs. We got 1.5 pounds of Alaskan King Crab legs for the market price of $22.50. They were very good; sweet moist and tasty. Everything seemed to start off well. For dinner, I had the Broiled Seafood platter. It was $17.00 and included fish, shrimp and scallops done in some grayish, tasteless sauce with breadcrumbs on top. Awful. Really. For sides you get a wide range of options. I had the mashed sweet potatoes and the mixed vegetables (like a ghoulash). Neither were tasty enough to mention again. The vegetables had undercooked beans, corn and some other stuff. The Glabella had her usual...the Shrimp Lover's platter. For $18.00 it had shrimp in blackened, fried and grilled forms. Of them, the blackened were the only ones that had any flavor at all. The fried ones were mushy and flavorless. There are much better to be had. She had the "Atkins noodles" which was basically just a bunch of shredded cabbage in a tomato sauce. Again, lacked any flavor. I do not recall the other side she had. The only thing getting this joint a 2 stars is the crab. The prices were sky high and the food an insult to the palate. I wouldn't go back.

Rudest bartender ever! This guy was dropping the f-bomb every two seconds and was not remotely attentive. He got in an argument with a customer about the price of his beer. There was a sign that read domestic beers were $1.50, the customer got Blue Moon and was not honored this price. Bartender got anger bc he didn't' know Blue Moon was from Coors. Instead of apologizing he yelled at him then at me for pointing out that the customer was correct. it took him 20 mins to ask if I wanted another drink after this. I'll never get anything from here again.

One of the best restaurants at the beach! The bar is hopping! The food selections are excellent and the staff is pleasant! They have some fabulous appetizers which we frequently make our dinner. The sunset shrimp and scallops is a pasta dish that can't be beat! Can't wait for the weather to improve so that we can get out on their new rooftop deck! Have a feeling that this will be a popular area as the weather improves!

Excellent food, very good prices, flavors were amazing, service was over the top attentive and super nice. My 2nd time dining here, and I would very much come back again. I love it when a restaurant owner knows how to take care of the customer....and when you have a great menu as well....how can you go wrong. GO TO SUNSET GRILLE when in St. Augustine and when you're done, take a stroll along the beach.

Food's bad, service is average, no views. The only draw is the free T-shirt if you get the coupon out of the local tourist guide. Stay away. The World Infamous Oasis is just down the road. Keep driving my friend, it's on the left.

Our Harley Davidson HOG chapter rode out to St. Augustine to have lunch here today. There were about 20 of us, so it was pretty easy to compare food and service. Service: Our table had a great waiter - Luther from Weekhawken, NJ. Funny, yet professional. Food - again - the overall opinion - 7 1/2 out of 10. I had the dry rubbed Baby Back Ribs - a whole rack. Thought I would be taking some leftovers home - wrong. The meat just fell off the bones (I did share a couple, however) and were "out-of-this-world" Served with sweet corn (also great) and Cole slaw (could have been better). Price - $19.99 and worth every penny. Now - about desert. I am attaching a picture because the presentation was elegant (not something I would have thought of from a "beach type" restaurant. Unfortunately - the Key Lime Pie was just OK, but again, the presentation was fabulous. I realize there are numerous restaurants in the St. Augustine area (such as the Oasis), but if your looking for a change - I would definitely recommend Sunset Grille.

This place is GREAT! Request to eat dinner on the upstairs deck. It's worth the wait. All the apps and entrees our group ordered were very good, especially the seared tuna. From the manager, to the bussers, the entire staff was incredibly attentive, and helpful. Between the surprisingly excellent food, and great atmosphere, we had a wonderful experience at the Sunset Grille, and will definitely return on our next trip to St. Augustine.

I have a rule about seafood, I only eat it when I can see the ocean. That being said, I will break that rule every time I come here. I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday and the experience was nothing short of spectacular. We sat on the roof, and while we had no wait, you will want to call ahead during busier times as it looks like there's not many tables up there. Matt, our server, was quick and attentive, and most importantly very helpful when it came to ordering. That brings us to the food, we had the spinach artichoke and crab dip to start. That itself was great, but the main courses, sunset grouper for me and coconut shrimp for her, were out of this world. I didn't think that I was eating fish, and really didn't want to share. I did have to let GF have some of my dish in order to try hers, and the giant shrimp and piña colada sauce did not disappoint! I will be back for sure.

Probably the best place on A1A! I took my mom there a few days ago to celebrate her birthday and they made everything memorable. We started with the crab rangoon dip and it was phenomenal. My mother had a piña colada and it was equally delicious! Our server was very nice but the manager was phenomenal! I never really encounter managers, but he was so sweet and so friendly he went the extra mile for us and I really appreciate it. I can't remember his name but he is from St. Pete! Every time I've ever gone it's been delicious. I recommend sitting upstairs, the beach breeze is so refreshing.

Came here tonight on our last night of vacation. It was fantastic! The food was incredible. I had coconut shrimp and my husband had the lobster mac n cheese. Even with an appetizer and dessert we only paid $61 so not as expensive as I expected. Our server was Tomasz and he was great. David was walking around taking plates and such and he was so friendly and attentive. It's Friday night so they were packed but that's to be expected and there was still no wait for a table for 2. If we are in town again we will definitely be back.

Came to the Sunset Grill because of the pictures and recommendations on Yelp, but highly disappointed. Service was extremely slow. I ordered the Ultimate Fish burger because of all the yummy slaw, but instead I got a greasy fish, about 1/2 Cup of mayonnaise, and about a teaspoon of cabbage salad on each sandwich half. I asked for double fries, but received a single serving. When I asked for more cabbage, I was informed that they were out. we ordered dessert, but they never brought it. Sadly disappointed, but I hope you have a better experience.

I'd eat here again. Had the blackened chicken sandwich & was great! Enjoyed a few pints from tap. Justine was our waitress & very nice. Thanks for a great visit!

I came here with Allene T. as one in the group of 20. Since she dealt with "reserving" the table, I just had to show up and eat! There was a slight wait, but we didn't mind, we understood it was a busy Saturday night. We were seated at three separate tables, with two separated by some walking space. We asked them to show the game (how could people in FLORIDA not have the FLORIDA STATE game on?!) which them a good 30 minutes to figure out how to change the channel. We ordered drinks first, and my friend misguidedly told me to order the Goombay Splash, which was a hot mess of rums but tasted misleadingly of pineapple juice. It came out with an outrageous display of streamers, but didn't make it any less potent. Next, we ordered our appetizers and meals at the same time. I ordered a cup of the "award winning soup," the crab bisque. It was thick and creamy, as a bisque should be, and chunky with bits of crab, but not overly so. I also ordered ahi tuna tacos. The ahi tuna was fresh and seared well, although the sesame breading seemed a little overwhelming with the proportion of fish to breading. The sauce was a bit over the top with the amount of wasabi in the creamy cusabi sauce. Not too touristy and has something for everyone!

This may now be my favorite restaurant in Florida. Third visit and they are consistently of exceptional quality. The food? Seriously amazing. The cheese & crab fondue is delicious. Everyone in our party loved it! Main dishes were excellent - huge shrimp, scallops, & portions! Even the kids meals were above average. To make it even better, our server Jake was hands down the best server I've had at a restaurant. So pleasant, courteous, and on point. I ordered a drink with the meal, and as soon as my plate came, he was bringing the drink right behind. He remembers every little thing. Justin assisted Jake and was also very pleasant & constantly making sure our table was clear and we had boxes. Worth every penny!!! And I can't usually say that.

It actually deserves 3 1/2 stars. It has "Tourist Trap" written all over it, but it is actually pretty darn good and reasonably priced. I had chowder fries, which were unique. I had never seen them before. Really a good idea, and executed very well. This place is a very good option if you are anywhere in the area. They have a lot of choices on the menu and variety to please anyone. Good seafood options, as well as standard American fair. I would go back.

Awesome place. I recommend sitting upstairs, has a nice rooftop view. There was a 45 minute wait to sit upstairs but you can grab a drink from the bar downstairs and wait in their great outside area. They have couches and benches so the wait seemed like no time because we were enjoying our drinks and atmosphere. Our food was delicious, giant portions. The fried grits are amazing, I have never had anything like it. I'm not a huge fan of grits but these were unbelievable!! Service was great and if you sign up before you visit you can get a buy one half off coupon. We will definitely be back on our next visit!!

There aren't many restaurants that are worth coming back to... However the Sunset Grille is definitely worth the trip back. Coming back here after spring break with my girls I could never forget about the great friendly service and even better food. One thing that can not be beaten here is their clam chowder. It not only has a full taste but Sunset Grille uses the calms to their advantage because it tastes natural and there isn't a lot added to the soup. It just tastes so good and is very memorable. If you're looking for a place where the whole family could eat, or a night out with your love... Sunset Grille is the place to go!

Would love to give a review on other parts of the experience, but so far, the actual wait (1hr) is at least twice as long as the quoted wait (25-30min). View is great though! Love the sea breeze, friendly staff, and strong drinks.

My wife found this listing while searching another restaurant. The review said to turn around and try the Sunset Grill. We were not disappointed. Even though it was a Wednesday, it is bike week and spring break, so rather busy. Surprisingly, we were seated right away. We started with rum runners which were prepared as expected. They helped wash down the artichoke spinach and crab dip which was worth the price. I ordered the coconut shrimp, which was very delicious and the home made sauce was not too sugery, just right. My wife had the blacked grouper which was very fresh and was complemented with a very tasty coleslaw and spinach and grit fritter. Yes, we both cleaned our plates! Service was very good during a busy time and it was nice that all servers chip in to help deliver and refill. P.S. Check out the local flyer for a free shirt coupon when you spend $25. It's a 25 anniversary shirt and the year meant a lot to me as it was the year my first daughter was born.

Really liked this place. We went for something casual and found just what we were looking for. In the past, had gone to Salt Life but wanted to try something different. Glad we did. I had the tuna tacos. They were fantastic. Big pieces of tuna that were cooked perfectly (very rare). My son enjoyed the ribs. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits. Served differently than she expected, but she really liked it too. The staff was very friendly. I just wished we were a little closer as it is a bit of a drive for us.

This place was highly recommended by St. Augustinians on a Facebook Feed I was following and when I saw all the fantastic reviews, I suggested it to friends as we were driving into town. Be forewarned. Parking is a b#$%^ if you arrive around lunchtime on a Saturday. And any street parking is essentially nonexistent. We almost gave up and drove away to find other places to eat at but when we didn't see anything that peaked our interest, we came back and, lo and behold, a spot in the very front opened it up. Maybe it was a sign? To be honest, this is your typical local restaurant by the beach. With table service. We were seated in a swift manner and perused the menu. We were starving so each of us(3 people total) ordered an appetizer to start to share. When the appetizers came out, we grumbled to each other since we had JUST ordered our entrees. If we'd known how HUGE the appetizers would be, we wouldn't have ordered entrees. I know it's not the job of the waitress but just wish she could've mentioned that. Maybe then we would've actually been able to order dessert! :/ Anyways, I ordered the fried pickle appetizer which , I swear, was the size of an entree plate! My friends ordered the mahi fish dip and the spinach artichoke dip. Wayyyy too much food . The plates took up our entire table. So what does that tell you? On a positive note, everything was really good but we barely finished everything. For our entrees, two of us ordered the grilled mahi fish tacos while another ordered the fried fish tacos. These were massive tacos(2 to a plate) and , again, if I had known what I know now, I would've ordered a plate to share. The piece of mahi in each taco was quite generous and sat on their bean and cheese dip on a tortilla topped with cabbage, crispy corn tortilla strips and chipotle ranch dressing. One taco was more than enough for me and , sadly, the other taco went to waste since we were staying at a hotel. I do have to mention that the side of black beans and rice were exceptional. Not sure what they put in there, but they did hit the spot. I tried my best not to let them go to waste. The waitress came by and asked if we wanted dessert. I almost shot her a dirty look but refrained. It was my inner grouchy side coming out. In a nutshell, it's a good environment (aside from the crying baby that wouldn't stop crying) and the portions are good, hefty and affordable (pace yourself when you eat here and SHARE dishes). But nothing really stood out where I would go out of my way to come back.

Very disappointed. After reading the reviews thought I couldn't go wrong here for fish. Ehhh not impressed. Atmosphere was great. Dined on the upper deck in the cool evening air, the noise from traffic drowns out the sound of the ocean. This fish was mediocre at best. Key lime pie was delicious.

Was visiting the area and found on yelp and glad I did! There was a wait for inside and upstairs dining so we sat outside at a high table top for immediate service... Not the best view at night, but I was hungry! I ordered the fish bites appetizer and omg delish!!!! The grits spinach cake wasn't the best, save your money and get something else instead like the coconut shrimp appetizer! We shared the 12 pce and it was perfect and very filling!!! ;) waiter was super attentive and checked in often! Pleased with service and manager gave is free cooZies and pens - pleasant dining experience , definitely going back ;)

I enjoyed a late lunch with some friends here on a recent visit to St. Augustine. The food was really good, but between the headache of trying to find parking, the slow service, and how loud the dining room was (I am going to be one of THOSE people and complain about a crying baby), I don't know know if the food alone will bring me back. Maybe I was just having a cranky day, but the loud baby on top of the loud parties around us was just a little too much. But I guess that isn't really Sunset Grille's fault. When we were seated, it took a little bit for our server to greet us and take our drink order. It was busy-ish, but there were empty tables, and from what I could tell, a lot of staff walking around. We ordered three appetizers, as we were super hungry, but it would've been nice if we had been warned that the portions are enormous. The Mahi fish dip was fabulous, served with pita chips instead of the usual crackers and veggies. We had enough fried pickles to feed the whole South- they were delish but man, do they give you a lot! The artichoke and crab dip was also really good- very creamy and melty, the way it should be. I feel terrible that I ordered the Mahi fish tacos and didn't really get to enjoy them the way they were meant to be enjoyed, as I was too full from our slew of apps. We were visiting from out of town, so taking the food for later wasn't really an option. The fish was very good, served on a layer of refried beans and flour tortillas. I ended up just eating the fish and toppings, sacrificing the tortillas. The black beans and rice that come as a side have this really great flavor that I just can't place. I was so sad that I could not finish this meal! After all this food, our server asked if we wanted dessert. I almost wanted to scold her for letting us order as much as had already. But I guess that is not her fault. It just would've been nice if we were asked if we had dined there before so she could let us know about the portion sizes.

Grilled mahi tacos are dope. Amazing. The crab legs appetizer was a far larger portion than I would have anticipated so having tacos as well was overkill however this place is fantastic. I will definitely be back. The service was prompt and friendly.

Lunch on the way home. Boss and I split the fish tacos. Kind of odd with refried beans but gave it a shot since that's how they prepare it. Too much cabbage but good flavor. Grilled mahi mahi was the fish. Had a nice spicy sauce to it. Also split a Baja ensalada salad. Not very good. Blackened chicken was overcooked and salad overloaded on the rice and beans and corn. No real flavor to it. Not sure how this is number 2 place in town via trip advisor. Atmosphere must be it. Sat on rooftop deck.

I wasn't really expecting much at this touristy spot. But we were starving, so we stopped at the first place we saw that looked decent from the street view. This was going to be our first meal in Florida and we wanted something good! We grabbed a spot on the downstairs covered patio. Service was decent, but I thought our server wasn't as conscientious as the other servers. One of the others even stepped in to help us while ours was MIA. The menu has so many choices! I got a Shrimp Po Boy, it was really good. The bf got a Seafood Bruchetta salad with shrimp, crab and scallops and love it. All in all a great lunch spot!

I had the coconut shrimp, which was excellent. This is a good place to eat for anyone searching for good, traditional, American style (mostly fried) seafood. The service was excellent. The location was very pleasant, and we did not have a long wait for sitting outdoors, although the line to sit outside or on the upstairs patio was heavy and I'd recommend calling ahead if you are set on dining outdoors.

I had my doubts about this place but the kids were grumbling so we rolled the dice. The garish decorations were reminiscent of wall hangings you would find in a chain. Is this a chain? The menu was blah so we just ordered a few appetizers because the kids were hungry. The coconut shrimp and calamari were both passable. On the way from the lavatory I noticed a wall full of awards for the minorcan conch chowder, which I promptly ordered. It was quite good, super chunky with a lot of ingredients. Service was good and waitstaff was friendly. The beer/drink list were standard for a place like this. I get the feeling that the menu never changes, same old menu items, day in/day out. If you take comfort in a chain or chain-like menu, go here. If you want thoughtful recipes and cooking, then pass.

Came to Sunset because of reviews but the service was extremely slow. Waiter was apologetic but took 20 mins before taking our order. We then waited well over an hour after ordering our food. Food was fine but won't go back. Parking is terrible. Food is mediocre.

We stopped in here for the last stop of our vacation and I am certainly glad we did! Saved the best for last!!! The food was delicious, service excellent, and atmosphere was very nice and relaxed. This was a dinner time visit so as expected there was a crowd but they seemed to have several separate seating areas with separate host stations and we tried the roof top first but there was a half hour wait and they directed us inside where we were able to walk right in and be seated. Our server (Tomasz) was very helpful with the selections on the menu and always on top of our drink needs the entire visit. I had shrimp and grits, which were perhaps the best I have ever had (this is one of the staples I order at a new place for comparison purposes) and my wife had the coconut shrimp. Her shrimp were huge and since I tried one I can honestly say they were delicious. Their desserts looked tempting but since we were so full from dinner we had to pass and will look forward to returning and trying them next time!

We chose Sunset Grille because my boyfriend had never eaten crab legs and this was the only close place we could find that was open and served them. They weren't available on the late night menu, but the waitress was nice enough to ask the kitchen and they were nice enough to make them for me! They ended up being delicious, as were the ahi tuna tacos. The strawberry daiquiri was absolutely out of this world! I wanted to order ten of them but for some reason, I'm a responsible adult. The restaurant windows were all open, so there was a beautiful breeze coming in off the ocean. As for the cons, the fries that came with my crab were incredibly soggy to the point of being inedible. My boyfriend ordered onion rings that just oozed water when you bit into them so I'm assuming they were frozen. All in all, it was a good experience. Honestly, the super cool waitress kind of made up for the watery onion rings.

Great atmosphere - almost the entire restaurant is exposed to the elements, so it's perfect on a beautiful day. The food was good. Not mind-blowing but good. If go back but I just really love out door seating on nice days.

We were so upset we waited until our last night of vacation to eat here. It was so delicious we wanted to eat there again! We started with the tuna appetizer and it was perfect. I had the lobster ravioli and my husband had the grouper. Finished it off with the key lime pie. No complaints here! We were seated immediately and our waitress was extremely quick and friendly. We can't wait until we visit the area again to have another delicious meal!

Lunch under par- soups were great, spinach dip terrible soggy mess, main courses bland. Sunset seems to be catering to tourist not looking for repeat business with what they are cooking up.

EXCELLENT! My mother and I didn't want to go out to eat, so we decided to order take out and we were extremely pleased we did! We ordered the Spinach, Artichoke and Crab dip and it was perfect, even out of the styrofoam. The coconut shrimp were obviously fantastic and the crab bisque was PHENOMENAL. I would especially recommend it! Overall the experience was great! April, the hostess who took our phone order, was more than happy to answer any questions I had about that food. She was polite, professional, and made sure I had everything I needed before I left. I had been here before, but years ago and I swore I'd never be back. I was so impressed today and I am happy I decided to give it another chance!

Wish we had decided on this place our first night in St. Augustine, we would have gone here for lunch and dinner. Went to Salt Life down the street (That place should stick to selling t-shirts) Sunset Grille is on A1A. Their saying must be "Somewhere on A1A" because I seen it on several things. This restaurant should have no problem staying consistent at the top. The service is fast, good and food is delicious. Sat at the very top. Thought maybe we would have a great view of the ocean but not high enough. You can see it just a little. But the great food makes up for it. Between me and my girls, we had crab bisque soup, spinach artichoke crab dip, Baja Fresh Mahi Ensalada & Frickle burger. My blackened mahi salad was amazing. Piping hot served on mixed greens, rice, sweet corn , salsa , and avocado ranch dressing (it said homemade but I have tasted it elsewhere before ) but still very flavorful. Bisque soup was creamy and delicious. The artichoke crab dip was very cheesy and hot. The only thing that wasn't that great was the fickle burger. Not a deal breaker by any means. It a 1/2 lb burger with fried pickles and chipotle ranch sauce. Should offer option of lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese because I took piece of my daughter's hamburger and it just really lacked flavor. No seasoning at all. The additional condiments would have livened it up somewhat and there weren't very many pickles on it. Louie was our server. He was tenative, teamwork seemed to be in place because people that were not our server picked up empty plates as they walked by. He gave me a cup of soda to go. Great for kids, families or friends going out to a local place. If your driving "Somewhere on A1A" be sure to stop @ The Sunset Grille.

OUTSTANDING. I came here with a work associate for a quick meal between meetings. Therefore, we did not have a great deal of time. This is the one thing I regret with this meal, because if I would have had more time I might have sampled every FRICKIN THING on the menu. The one thing my time allowed: THE ULTIMATE FISH SANDWICH. OMG, HOLY MACKERAL, GREAT GOOGLY-MOOGLY, that sandwich was INCREDIBLE!!! I've never had a fish sandwich that had so much goodness within. There was a lot going on, but it all worked extremely well.

So, overall, I'd come back; but I have a few issues. I regret spending $8 on the dark and stormy I ordered. It's usually my go-to drink, but this time it tasted like ginger ale and water. I asked the server to bring me something a little stronger, instead he brought me a shot of rum for me to mix into my drink, which he still charged me for- the result wasn't very appealing either. With that being said, the food was pretty good. We had the coconut shrimp plate, tortellini alfredo, ahi tuna tacos, and the fried goat cheese salad. It was all delicious, for the most particular. The fried goat cheese medallions were a little bland, and the shrimp could have used a tad more seasoning as well. Overall, I'd come back for the food, certainly not the over priced and terribly made drinks.

We've been to the Sunset Grille a number of times. We had a crab dip which was excellent. My wife had the Sunset Salad which she shared with me. I had the Fried Seafood Lover's platter which I shared with her. They have a nice selection of local draught beers which make things just right. We'll stop back the next time we visit the area.

We visited Sunset Grille because we had heard from a couple friends it was a great place near the beach. As a party of 11 loud family members, our experience may be a little justified, so I'll break it down: Atmosphere: Exactly what I would expect from a restaurant on the beach, so it was cute and cheesy at the same time. The outside waiting area was nice and necessary for the amount of people that show up to this place. Service: The hostess and bar service were excellent. Both were pleasant, attentive and happy to help with whatever they could. The waitress was the most disappointing service we received, which was unfortunate, because my family is always happy to tip well. They were busy, but she seemed extremely unenthused whenever dealing with us from the start. She also rarely stopped by the table, and when she did, she would begrudgingly ask if we needed anything. Bar: The drinks were well priced and well made. Food: We ordered the Chowder Fries for the table, which were delicious and cheesy. They really tasted like bacon cheese fries, but I'm not complaining. The food was good, but I was overall disappointed. For the price I either expected quantity or quality, and you really just receive average at best for both. I would recommend it if it isn't busy and you have a small group because you can be seated at the bar rather easily.

  • Candi D.

Could easily earn 5 stars for the quality of the food but the service crawled. Server was abrupt and impatient with my group of five ladies requesting separate checks. Will give this one another chance based on the crab bisque Island and Grouper.

Visited this restaurant for the first time this evening. They do not take reservations so we took our chances based on the many positive Yelp reviews we had read. When we arrived at 7:00 PM we were told we had a 45 minute wait so we went into the bar area for a beverage while we waited. We lucked out and got two seats at the bar fairly quickly (timing is everything ). While waiting for our table we ordered a chowder and crab bisque and my wife and I loved our choices. We then moved into the dinning area for our main entree. First my wife and I shared some peel n eat shrimp (cold) and we enjoyed them very much. I then had the "ultimate seafood salad and it was wonderful . My wife had the "Caribbean Mahi Mahi with mango pineapple salsa and she loved it . She said the Mahi Mahi was moist and not overly spicy with an abundance of mango pineapple salsa. We are only in St Augustine for two days but are already talking about going back there again tomorrow! I would have rated this a 4.5 but I don't know how to do that.

A year or so ago I stopped off at Sunset to see how an old beach favorite was holding up against stiff competition from the newcomer in town, the Salt Life shack. And while the food was not that bad, I was completely taken aback by whom - I assume - was the owner. Simply put an amazing prick. In all of my years in eating out, I've never seen such an aggressive individual in the service business. This guy was berating a customer who - I guess - had the audacity to question something about his meal. As a part owner in a restaurant myself (Atlanta), I can't imagine speaking this way to someone. Again, this was a year ago so perhaps this guy is gone - or, if the owner, he's sold, but left such an indelible impression, it still sends shivers up and down my spine! With the average food, this is a place I'll avoid in the future. `

All the food I tried here was great! I was impressed considering its a beachside bar... I highly recommend the cheese bread app, the lobster ravioli, & the coconut shrimp! The management was also great... They made the experience very personable.

Get the Crab Rangoon App! It was amazing! Then I got the fried fish platter. Shrimp, scallops, & fish. It was huge and good! The tarter sauce was obviously home made. It had a selfish taste with strong dill flavor, which I liked. The corn was obviously fresh and sweet. The cole slaw was great and I'm not a cole slaw fan. My husband got the Thai tacos and he also enjoyed it.

Great rooftop seating area! Grilled fish sandwich was delicious as the crab Rangoon app...just missing the crab...but still good and waiter brought extra chips! Service was a little slow but I was on vacation so didn't mind much.

The service was great!! We have a dairy allergy, and the server knew everything and what we should get that didn't have dairy! We got the mahi tacos, which were probably the best. We also got the mahi salad, which was good but over cooked. Then I got the steamed and raw oysters, there were a ton of shell in them and made it almost impossible to eat. Everything was a little pricey for the whole meal. To top it all off I got the key lime pie to hopefully save my opinion of this restaurant and it was not the best, the crust was soggy and the filling was not on point, the whip topping was also flat. It is definitely a 3 star restaurant with a little pricey price tag on it.

Stopped for lunch and had the Mahi tacos, excellent flavor and big pieces of Mahi. Sweet tea was great. Waitress was average, but sociable and nice. she was very busy which could of added to the minor mistakes. No extra plate and brought me the wrong drink for refill. Ate upstairs which was outside. Great breeze and atmosphere. Would definitely come back.

This is my go-to place at St. Augustine beach. I cannot say enough good things about the C.. At lunch the seafood salad melt (lobster, shrimp and crab in a traditional lobster roll sauce) on a grilled Ciabata bun with melted cheese. Primarily, the seafood takes center stage. It is not drenched in mayo/sauce and there is no celery (hard for me to find but only way I'll eat it). I was hesitant about the cheese but it is good with it. I usually get them to bring me a slice of tomato too. A variation on this, served at lunch and dinner, is the Ultimate Seafood Salad. Same seafood on large bed of lettuce with cucumber, roasted red pepper and dried cranberries with a key lime vinaigrette. Equally as good. Since it is hard for me not to order one of these, the only other item I can comment on (since I went to Sunset Grille twice on my last visit to the area) is the Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi. Heavenly bliss. Can't remember the last time I had fish this fantastic. I had it grilled (could get blackened). It is topped with passion fruit beurre blanc, just the right amount of sweetness, and then a sweet potato "nest" (tiny shreds of yumminess). For sides I had the grits cake and green beans. This was truly a fantastic meal. I have eaten outside up and downstairs, inside and at the bar. All good.

Had a Great meal today. Had family in town from NC. Started with the N E clam chowder and a Greek salad. Salad was large enough for 2 or 3 folks. Lunch included a couple of burgers, fish tacos and a chicken pita all tasted great. Lots of food and the fries were very hot just like they should be. Our server Teresa was excellent. Only neg was the AC was a bit cold but everything else was Great.

In St. Augustine for the day & found Sunset Grille on Yelp. It was a perfect evening to sit on the upstairs patio. My server, Jake, was very personable and attentive. I ordered the Maui Wowie Mahi Sandwich - offered grilled or blackened, I chose blackened. It was delicious and the citrus jalapeño sauce & cabbage on the sandwich were something different, but a perfect touch. Added a bit of a "kick"! The service, food quality and value make it a place I would definitely recommend and visit again! So many other menu items I'd like to try!

Apart from making me wonder where the Basket People were (and when they'd show up to walk around and mumble), the name of this established promised good beachy food and pretty much delivered. I ordered the Ahi Tuna App and Caesar Salad with blackened Mahi-Mahi. Tuna was delightful! Salad was good, but our server forgot the Mahi and had to bring it out later (it was good, though.) My wife had the Mahi sandwich and likewise enjoyed the fish but felt the presentation (bread and sauce) overpowered the main ingredient. Decor is sports bar beach chic with lots of televisions and light streaming in from A1A. A decent joint - we'd do it again.

Went for lunch and sat upstairs/outside. Not much of a view unless you like looking at parking lot and traffic. Had fish bites. They were ok. Also a small side salad. Was going to order tacos with black beans. After asking the server if the beans contained meat, she said the were cooked with bacon. Would have appreciated the info on menu since I have a meat allergy. Hubby had fish sandwich. It was served on a hoagie bun and had a better taste than the bites, which were a bit fishy tasting. Overall it was ok. Seemed a bit touristy.

Great drinks, and ok food. I had the fish tacos which were pretty bland but I really enjoyed my frozen mudslide and they other drinks that my friends ordered. The location is basically across the street from the beach so great location after a long day at the beach but they need to step it up in the food category.

Went here on a recommendation from a friend and was sorely disappointed. Dirty, dark, dingy establishment and uninspired food. Would have much rather spent my $ at the a1a burrito works taco stand down the road.

This place is my old reliable restaurant choice. My parents were visiting from NY, we had the sunset grouper, coconut shrimp and the lobster Mac and cheese- all delicious. You can't go wrong eating here and the service is always good. The menu offers something for everybody, my father in law loves the steak sandwich!

Meh. The food was decent, frozen and fried, but bland and not really anything to write home about. The only real issue that bothered me was the insistence of the waitstaff to touch my drink straw as they walked to the table.

Fantastic customer service!! I called in in the morning to inquire about dinner for 20, as my friends and I had a reunion in St. Augustine and were staying a few blocks down A1A. The lady on the phone (can't remember her name, sorry!) was extremely helpful in assisting me with the coordination of dinner that same Saturday evening. Though they don't take reservations, they took my phone number and instructed me to call back during the evening to see what the line was like, or I could walk over and put my name down. Around 7:30pm, they called me back asking if I still wanted to keep my reservation and that they would start setting the table up for our group... and I didn't have to go anywhere! When we reached the restaurant, we had to wait an additional 10 or so minutes from the original scheduled reservation of 8:15, since one of the tables was still paying. We were all seated in a more quiet area inside the restaurant and they even managed to put us as close together as possible! Our waitress (also forgot her name, sorry!) was one of the most organized and efficient waitresses I've ever seen - she was quick, accurate, and was able to handle a group of 20 with ease. We got our drink orders, food orders, and food in a timely fashion. As for the food - no complaints from me. I had the conch and clam chowder mix soup - didn't know the conch chowder was tomato based! It was a delicious soup, but my only gripe is that I wish it actually had more seafood in it - maybe only a couple pieces here and there at the bottom of the cup. I substituted this for one of my sides for a $2 upcharge ($3 for bowl). For my main entree I ordered the 1 1/2 lbs of crab legs and these were delicious! Nothing to complain about here. As for the sweet corn, I wasn't really a fan... not much to rave about there. I also had bites of the ridiculously cheesy and largely-portioned lobster mac and cheese which was tasty, but only for the first couple of bites because it is so dense and full of cheese. If you're in St. Augustine with a large group, Sunset Grille is your place to be - just make sure you call in ahead of time!

Wait time on a Saturday night was 45 minutes. Could have sat outside but windy and cold so no one was sitting outside. If outside seating had been available I'm sure wait would not have been as long. Very crowded at entrance with no real place to wait. Went to bar but it was also packed. Once seated wait staff was amazing. Very friendly, attentive and efficient. Ordered the New England clam chowder and found it flavorful, with plenty of clams. The ahi tuna was very well seasoned and portions were large could have easily sufficed as entree. Both entrees were served promptly after our appetizers. Seafood platter was well seasoned and fries to perfection. The ahi tacos were large and very tasty. Prices are average for the area and in line with the portion size. Will be back for another try when in the area to determine consistency. All in all a good dining experience.

This was recommended by the clerk at our hotel. We ate lunch up on the outdoor deck. The weather was perfect for sitting outside. We were not disappointed. I ordered the goat cheese salad, incredible. My son had the Mahi fish tacos. He said they were the best of our trip. The service was good for the busy restaurant and the time of day. This will stay on our list of return visits as we come back through the area.

We came here while on vacation on Crescent Beach just south of St Augustine Beach Labor Day weekend. It was around 9:30 on a Friday night when we were trying to figure out what to eat. A lot of places around St. Augustine Beach we realized closed at 9. When I saw this place, I told my husband let's go for it because they were open until 1am and looked pretty good. We actually got our food to go. We got there just around 10pm and parking was a breeze. My husband went in while I stayed with our daughter in the car. I wanted something small so I got the Coconut Shrimp. He got the Ultimate Steak Sandwich and we got cheese sticks for an app. It took next to no time at all before he was heading back to the car, which was amazing since we had a tired toddler in the backseat. The food was SO good. The Pina Colada dip for the shrimp was amazing. He loved his sandwich and he is a picky eater. We loved the food so much the next night when we couldn't figure out what we wanted we decided to go back. I got the Ahi Tuna Tacos. He got the same sandwich he loved it so much. The tacos were AMAZING. I didn't use the casabi sauce since I hate wasabi, and it tastes like just like the stuff. But the tacos were juicy enough without it. We also got the buffalo dip which was awesome. We contemplated going back Sunday but decided to try something else. But goodness, we will definitely be back if we're in St Augustine!

We came in on Saturday for dinner expecting a long wait. It was a birthday dinner, so we didn't mind at all, we wanted to sit upstairs. Just 2 of us, we were told 25 min. wait. Wow, that seems fast I said.. Low and behold our buzzer went off at 18 minutes, and we were promptly seated. The service was Excellent! , our server was very attentive on bringing us drinks, and refills.. We ordered a bowl of the clam chowder for an app, it is delish! Our dinners came out before we could even finish half of the chowder we were sharing. Here's where they lost a star, the dinners were just meh, maybe it's just us and our taste buds, but I had the award winning shrimp and grits, and the wife had the Spicy Shrimp Sriracha. Both dinners seemed the shrimp were overcooked. We will go back for sure and try some different menu items, I'm interested in checking out the lobster Mac n Cheese, and the Sunset Grouper on our next visit. ;)

My friends and I had an overall great experience here. We were looking for a place that was decently priced, had booze, was laid back and near our hotel. Sunset Grille fit the bill. The service was awesome. Our waiter was super attentive and just an all around cool dude to talk to. A pretty gnarly rain storm broke out while we were eating on the upper uncovered level and the staff moved us to a drier area with no issues. The food was really good. Beer prices tolerable ($8 for a pitcher, not too bad) We split a couple of apps. I highly recommend the crab fondue. It was awesome. For entrees my lobster ravioli was bangin' and my friends enjoyed the steak sandwich and seared tuna tacos. Since we had no room left for dessert we snagged some key lime pie for the road and after many beers later it definitely hit the spot. That rain storm that i mentioned was pretty bad and i think its awesome that the staff was still super friendly and attentive to us, considering they were getting rained on at times. Maybe that happens regularly in FL but still, i didn't expect everyone to be so cool about letting us tough it out. I guess what I am trying to say is that we really appreciated it and thanks to them we were able to really enjoy our meal.

I read some of the reviews here and was surprised at all the high praise.. we expected something really special for all the hype surrounding it but it just didn't happen for us. There were 6 of us and none of us were impressed with the service or the food. The Black Beans & Rice were pretty good so we came back the next night to get just that to go .. we were told that the serving size was one of the 1/2 pint size boxes filled... we reduced our order because we didn't want to much food - got back to our place and found out that they barely fill it all all - the portion size is much smaller then what you even get on your place if you dine in. we'll be back to st. augustine but probably some other place on A1A.

This is a fabulous place. We drive down from Savannah sometimes just to eat here. The service is superb as is the food. The place is always packed ... That ought to tell you something. My favorites: 18 oysters on the half shell, $9.99; Anguliotti $12.95. Ask for LEX the waiter. He's fabulous! Everything we've tried here is terrific. You won't be disappointed.

I knew what I was going to order before coming here but when I saw the menu, there was no telling. They had so much to chose from. I kept changing my mind. There were award winning dishes on the menu. I ordered the Award Winning three cheese crab dip as an appetizer and it was HUGE and FILLING! I couldn't eat anything else. So that was my dinner. It was good and unique.

So we checked in to our hotel in St. Augustine, and I picked up one of those restaurant magazine guides in the lobby to flip through. This place caught my attention, maybe it was the picture of the restaurant, perhaps it was the pictures of the food, or maybe it was the coupon for free t-shirt...lol Who knows. I checked the reviews on Yelp, and some were awesome, and some were "ok," but we decided to take the plunge and try it anyway. I am glad we did! As an appetizer my husband and I split the coconut shrimp, which were amazing. They were butterflied and were buttery! yum. My husband also tried they clam chowder which was actually quite good. I'm usually not a chowder fan because most places just put a bunch of potatoes which I feel is like filler, but this place put tons of clam and bacon in their chowder! For my entree I had a shrimp platter which had two skewers of grilled shrimp (1 plain and 1 with old bay seasoning), and a few fried shrimp. The grilled shrimp were awesome, and their fried shrimp were great, as the breading was light, and the shrimp were not greasy. My husband had the ribs, which were a bit spicy, but HUGE and very good. As one of our sides my husband and I both tried the spinach and cheese grits cake which was crisp on the outside, and creamy and well flavored in the center. And to top it all off, we split a key lime pie...which was fantastic :) Overall we had a great experience, even though I forgot my free t-shirt coupon...lol I would definitely come back next time we are in town.

I'll give this place four stars on the grilled shrimp alone. They have a nice selection of seafood on the menu, but we both had the shrimp. The service was pretty decent. Pleasant decor if not a little on the margaritaville side. My plate came with three skewers of five shrimp each. The grit cake with spinach had a bit of an "end-of-day" taste, and the cole slaw was nothing special. But like I said, the shrimp made me happy!! The plaques proclaimed multiple awards for their clam chowder, but I had to pass as part of my Lenten duty. For shrimp? Yeah! Four stars. My only other wish... Oysters in the raw. Well done, Sunset Grille.

Service was good. Food was excellent. Sat upstairs on the deck and the weather was great. Drinks were perfect. Went with my wife and two young girls and everybody enjoyed their food. Even though we were all stuffed after our meals, with no appetizers, my oldest daughter wanted to try the "ultimate brownie". All four of us ate part of it and left some on the plate. Best brownie I've ever had!

This place was amazing I lived the mozzarella sticks and the fish was juicy and tender yet it's breasting was crunchy and great. Our waiter was amazing and attentive he knew how to laugh. There might be a wait and that's ok. We were lucky and got one of the last tables...don't leave... stay for the so delicious food. Best chowder ever... thick with seafood. Blackened Mahi salad super yum. Nice wait staff. Excellent experience.

Great tasting food w high prices. Appetizers are incredibly small portions. We got the scallops appetizer- we received four scallops for $12! Ouch! Service is lackluster. Our server badmouthed the owner calling him greedy for opening the patio on a chilly evening, but maybe that is right on? We came away with mixed emotions. But this place was packed every evening during our weeklong stay in St Augustine.

Wow, what a great restaurant! Not only was the food great, the server was excellent! I asked for a recommendation and Cory shared 3 or 4 of his favorites. I took his lead and ordered the shrimp and grits. They were awesome, not as typically served, they were in a red sauce and the grits were made into cakes which absorbed the sauce beautifully. Absolutely delicious! I will return each time I visit St Augustine Beach. Thanks to Cory for making my meal a pleasure with his recommendation.

Not a five star experience because of the wait. Came around 7.30pm and asked for a table for two,we were told the wait would be 30 to 45 min,we decided to grab some drinks at the bar, they have yummy mojitos and piña-coladas. We ended up sitting ourselves outside almost at 9pm,last time we checked on our status with the hostess she was a bit confused and promised another 5-10min,but like I said a while after we ended up sitting ourselves. Service was prompt, everyone was very friendly and nice despite how busy they were We ordered for appetizer 1/2 dozen of oysters and for our entrees award winning Lobster ravioli and Caribbean mahi-mahi, food was outstanding and it came out in a matter of 15 min tops which was great,bc we were starving after a long wait. Best lobster ravioli I've ever had, tender, with big chunks of lobster inside and served with delicious sauce.Mahi-mahi grilled to perfection, fresh and tender not over seasoned, served with chunks of fruit and your choice of 2 sides,(wasn't too impressed with the green beans,no flavor) Service and food made up for the wait, totally worth it.Great experience after all!

We headed to Sunset Grille for lunch because we were in the area and were looking for a beach bar and grill type place. The atmosphere is very much that laid back feel you only find near the beach. We ordered the crab bisque, NE clam chowder, and mahi bites for appetizers - all were very good though a little light on the crab n the bisque. I had the steak sandwich which was good quality but certainly nothing you haven't seen before. I was a bit disappointed that the lunch menu didn't have as many creative seafood dishes as you'd expect on the menu at a beach restaurant. The service was good, restrooms clean and all that - it just felt a bit more touristy than you detect at first glance. All in all I should probably rate them higher than 3 stars given that I have no real complaints, but for some reason it just didn't have that hook that makes you itch to come back. I will try somewhere else in the area next time I'm in town. I would recommend you go see for yourself with reasonable expectations.

Food was excellent. Just hope a huge party doesn't get seated just before you do (after you've probably waited 30 minutes or more for a table). We got our drinks and appetizers fairly quickly. But then it was an eternity before we got our entrees, which were great. By the time we got them, we had actually lost our appetites. BTW - I have absolutely no idea how another reviewer was able to watch the sunset over the ocean, since the ocean is to the east. But, hey, if you have enough Margaritas, anything's possible!!!

Great food, prices, and service! Arrived at 7:45 pm on a Saturday night with a party of seven. A few drinks at the bar and we were seated within about 25 minutes. We had a great server named Lex who helped us decide on our dinner choices. I have not stopped thinking about the amazing Lobster Mac & Cheese since we left! We also had the fried seafood dinner and everything was cooked perfectly. The scallops melted in our mouths. Although we were visiting from Miami, we'll definitely eat here again on our next visit!

What a disappointment! After an eventful day of visiting tourist spots in St Augustine, I asked a cashier at The Lighthouse where we could get good seafood. He directed us to the Sunset Grille. Big Mistake. The restaurant was busy, and the noise of customers was loud. We started off the dinner with a cup of Crab Bisque as an appetizer. It was really delicious, so we tried another appetizer, the Crab, cheese, jalapeno fritters. They were mostly fried cheese, crisp on the outside and and big dallop of melted cheese w/jalapeno bits. I'm sure there must have been some crab in them as I did get some crab flavor. Next, we ordered the Ultimate Seafood Salad. The menu read includes, crab, lobster, and shrimp. Also, we ordered the Macadamia nut encrusted Mahi Mahi with two sides - baked sweet potato and spinach cheese grits. The salad arrived in a large bowl with a scoop of seafood spread sitting atop (rather, plopped on top of) a bed of lettuce. The spread did contain some chunks of shrimp. The crab and lobster must have been finely mixed in with the other components of the seafood spread. It had little seasoning and was rather bland. The shrimp in the spread were good. Also around the scoop of seafood spread were sliced cucumbers in one little spot, cherry tomatoes next, cranberries, and a roll. The salad dressing was served in one of those little paper cups, and was overly sweet. The Mahi Mahi was covered with a mound of deep fried shredded sweet potato covering it. They had no seasoning, but were crisp. The nut crust on the Mahi Mahi was mushy, but the fish itself was overcooked. The dish again, had no flavor. The sweet potato was cooked properly and was flavorful. The cheese grits cake with spinach was also good. The waitress had come by and asked how the food was and we explained our disappointment. She said she was sorry we were not pleased with the food. Later another individual came by (may have been in charge of the front of the house), and asked how we were enjoying the meal. We again explained how disappointed we were. When I was telling him about the fritters being mostly like fried cheese he became very defensive, saying they were mostly crab with just a little cheese. Needless to say, he offered nothing other than his regrets that we were not pleased, and he left. The waitress came and left our check, we paid and left, never to return. I can't speak of their drinks, as we had water, which was filled promptly when needed. All restaurants are memorable, but the good memories are so hard to find. At this restaurant, order a large bowl of Crab Bisque with crackers, you won't be disappointed.

I went with a group of 6 they did seat us quicker than they said which was great! Service was pretty speedy. You would think being across from the ocean they would have fresh seafood but they only had a few fresh fish! The grouper which was one of the fresh was thick and good! I got the ahi tuna (another fresh) not so good! It was drenched in a ginger sauce that seemed from a bottle blah! Everyone else got burger or something easy they were just ok. Nothing about this place is outstanding, but not terrible and fairly priced. I just wasn't impressed with their lack of fresh seafood!

After a very long and fun day, I was starving and Sunset Grille caught my eye because there is nothing like good seafood after a day at the beach. It was a weekday afternoon and the place was starting to get busy. I was kinda turned off by the lackluster service I got downstairs, but upstairs was much better. Not only was I greeted with a smile, but the view of the sunset and a peek of the ocean made the experience worth it to me. I got a blue moon margarita. I really wasn't too impressed with the plastic cup it got served in, especially because I kinda expect more when dining for dinner, but it was strong enough and tasty. We got calamari which was good. I really liked the homemade marina sauce. The main entree we picked was the Seafood Lovers dinner- shrimp, scallops and fish. We opted for the blackened seasonings because everything is better spicy. It was yummy but nothing really extraordinary. It was a great finish to an amazing day. I plan to return and further explore the menu.

We ate here last night as it is right across from our hotel and didn't feel like driving after a long day at the Gatorade Duels. The service was outstanding and the food was great! We started out with soups. My wife had crab bisque and I ordered a spicy version of clam chowder. It was like Manhattan Clam chowder but had a nice kick to it. I forget the name they had for it. We loved both choices. I ordered a New York strip steak medium rare and it was tender and cooked to perfection. I have to say it was the best NY strip I've ever had. It was also a huge steak! It came with green beans and they were fresh and done just right. My wife ordered a crab and shrimp dish served over penne pasta and she said it was excellent. I would definitely go bak here again!

Great place! Four of us had dinner during a multi-day visit to St. Augustine. Two of our party had the Augustine steak, one had blackened grouper, and the fourth had the shrimp and scallop pasta. All of us loved our meals. Our server was new to the restaurant but patiently answered all our questions about the food. Definitely would go back.

This place is what I call safe. Nothing special food was good but a bit generic the best part was the drinks they were strong! There was a bit of a wait because it was packed and the roof was closed due to winds. My girlfriend (at the time) ordered the fish and chips and was presented an entire fried fish not really what she expected. The chicken fingers were very forgettable utterly bland! My burger was COOKED. I dunno this just didn't do it for me. All of the people we talked to about the Sunset Grille gave it pretty good reviews and I can see why it's a very safe restaurant just not what I expected.

I had the crab, shrimp and lobster salad "lobster-roll style" and my husband had the "melt" sandwich with the same seafood combination. The many whole shrimp were tender, not overcooked or tough; crab was real and tasty; lobster meat was identifiable--real NE lobster! Our server was prompt and friendly. If you like fresh, real seafood, please give it a try! Enjoyed the soft Bob Marley and other "beachy" music.

D and I, spending a day in St. Augustine decided we were hungry. Unfortunately there was only Sunset Grille and one similar looking bar about half a mile down. We decided on Sunset for... no good reason. We waited in the waiting area for five minutes because the girl who greeted us suggested we "wait for the other hostess". The restaurant was barely half full, the girl could have easily sat us herself. For entree we ordered the specialty Scallop Platter. $20 for 8 measly overcooked (not properly blackened like I asked) bland scallops, soggy flavorless "spinach and shrooms", and one sad baked potato. Grrrrrr. The manager in his nice button-up shirt walked around like a clueless puppy. Didn't greet us, didn't come ask us how our food is, if we need anything else, etc. Nobody said goodbye to us on our way out, either. The only reason this place gets any stars is 1. The crab bisque (TO DIE FOR)! and 2. Beer was alright. And 3. Our kind and eccentric waitress. I didn't get her name but she had kitty paw print tatts on her arm. I'd come back here for a beer, not for food.

During a recent trip to St. Augustine, the girlfriend and I stopped into the Sunset Grille out of sheer desperation. After cruising up and down A1A, it seemed to be one of the very few places which didn't appear closed or oddly deserted on a Friday afternoon. It turns out, with good reason. The restaurant itself managed to find a perfect balance of local flavor, and commercialized atmosphere that so many find safe and comfortable with franchise restaurants. The wait staff were warm, friendly and inviting. The food was well beyond my expectations, and came from a menu which was both varied and reasonably priced. My only disappointment was in finding out that food is not served on the top deck, which boasts open salt air and an ocean view, but is reserved for drinks only. If I ever find myself down that way again, I'll definitely stop in for a bite.

We needed a place for lunch with family before they left town, and we picked this place without looking at the menu. Surely they had something vegetarian? Yes! They had several choices, but I was so happy with what I ordered, we went there again the next night for dinner and I got the same thing! I got a caesar salad and a side of fries (with tartar sauce!). The salad was one of the best caesar salads I have ever had! And the fries, it was like they were double fried or something, really good! I got my 3 year old a side of rice, which turned out to be rice pilaf. She loved it! My husband got a Greek salad and was very happy with it. Both salads came with bread. Both times the service was great. For dinner we sat up on the roof and had an ocean view (sort of). They have great drinks, too! I sampled several, and they were all tasty and very reasonably priced. Even though they didn't have that much veggie stuff, I would still go here again and get that same meal.

I am going 5 stars for the combination of this restaurants location, food, ambiance, waitstaff, owners are outstanding. The food is creative, delicious, and served quickly by very nice and very friendly staff. Kudos to the kitchen for pushing out such quality in such little time. The ambiance is very laid back and the amount of wood working (walls, tables) done in this building is mind blowing. The owner/s are friendly and table side, meaning they actually interact with their customers and are available to answer any questions, concerns or complaints (as if there was any). Onto a more specific food rant...the little Maui bites, like little cubes of butter, served with a "dilly" tartar, melt in your mouth. The seafood pizza, cheeeeesy, crispy crust, a delight for the taste buds. The jerk wings, nice balance of heat/spice and the accompany sauce, well I would drink this out of a glass, brings a nice cool down to the zing of the wing. The crab fondue cheese steak, a nice sized steak covered in a smooth crab fondue sauce. Steak was cooked perfectly and was actually more meat than TWO of us could eat (keep in mind that WE usually eat proportionate amounts of meat, 6-8 oz). My accompanying side (grit cake with spinach and cheese) BLEW ME AWAY. Sooo good. Not at all what I expected. Typically indigence as bland as grit, spinach, usually are hard to push flavor through. Most cooks use a ton of garlic or parm to achieve flavor....not so here. Oh there is cheese, but not overwhelming amounts, a really great taste...hard to define so I suggest "Order This"...you will be surprised. Pricing is more than fair for the amount and quality of food brought with a smile to your table. I would have no issue ordering anything and blindly from their menu. Full confidence that anything prepared in their kitchen would be out of this world. ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND...and cannot wait to get back to St Augustine so I can dine here AGAIN.

This is a great place. Atmosphere, food, and location. Our group had: clam chowder, diablo dip and chips, salad with goat cheese and mahi mahi, same but with shrimp, patty melt, and fish tacos. Server was awesome, completely knew the menu and didn't right anything down, even made great menu suggestions. Even though we were stuffed we even had the peanut butter pie and key lime pie which were probably the best desserts we had during our vacation; even better than the very expensive places we ate at. The price was awesome too. All this for 4 people, under $100.

There is nothing better than to sit at Sunset Grill watching the sunset over the ocean, open air margarita in hand. Sigh..... Oh and there food isn't bad either! The Crab Bisque is hearty and really good here. I know this is a seafood restaurant but I had to try the Chicken and Artichoke Francaise - The chicken breast wasn't too bland as it was pounded slightly prior to cooking. It had capers, cream and artichoke stuffed into the middle... MMMNNNNN!!! There was pasta in this dish as well, but really? Who noticed! The chicken dish wasn't too bad but the seafood is expensive. Most dishes are just around $20.00. The service was good, then it got busy and we lost our server for a short while, but overall the experience and food here is delish!!!

First things first- I'm going to rate Sunset Grille specifically as a drinking establishment, I did not have any food while there, as I stopped in to spend a Saturday night. Heard many great things about the food, and some of the appetizers I saw coming out looked great, but can't tell you how they tasted. As for spending a night out at Sunset- not a bad time at all. Got there at about 9 pm on a Saturday, and it was just the right amount of people. It was pretty packed, but not bad enough where you couldn't find a seat. The bartender was very friendly and chatty, and took great care of us ALL night long. Didn't have to wait to get refills on beers, and it's very impressive to see she remembered what we were drinking after the first round so I didn't have to continue to repeat what I wanted. A lot of TV's in the place- most were tuned to the Jaguars game, some to baseball. Would've been nice to watch the NASCAR race, but I probably could've asked someone to put it on... I was just enjoying the atmosphere. A jukebox was blasting in the corner, putting out some good tunes- thankfully I was with a good crowd that liked classic rock and some newer rock. A group of college kids was dancing in the corner, while a lot of older folks were sipping wine at the bar, while some yuppies sipped sherry outside- very diverse crowd. Do like the fact that there are lots of tables surrounding the bar area, so if you want to sit and eat you have that option, as well as heading outside, where bar stools line a wooden bar offering up a view of A1A, as well as a smoking area- bit ups for the citronella candles keeping the bugs away too. If you're a local- be prepared to run into a lot of old faces- bumped into a lot of people I went to high school with- some good, some bad, but always entertaining. After reading the other reviews, I kinda wish I had tried some of the food here, but oh well, maybe next time. So after downing a few pints and buying a drink for a girl on her birthday, the tab was only $25.00! 2.50 for a draft beer- Jackpot! -1 star for not having Sam Adams on draft though. Overall, I had a great time. Drink selection was pretty good, the bartender was awesome, and the diverse crowd there really seemed to gel well- a lot of people getting drunk, dancing, watching sports, making new friends, and nobody getting stupid, I love when that happens. I had a great time, at a great price, and will definitely be in again.

I was staying at the Hampton Inn and walked across the street for a quick meal and was glad I did. The staff was very nice and my meal (the ultimate seafood salad) was delicious. I sat at the bar area as the outdoor seating was full.

Some of the best food I've had while in St A. Service was quick and accommodating, atmosphere was fun and beachy (although the location is about 1 block from the sand) and prices were reasonable.

Ummm...not a fan! No one in our party was thrilled with their meal. BUT, out waitress was amazing & this place is a very cool (beachy feel) type place. Great for burgers, wings, apps, etc...not regular dinner meals though. Just my honest opinion.

Fantastic service. Food was served promptly and fresh. Portions were huge. The food was flavorful and the atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting. I recommend the cup of clam chowder. The baked sweet potato was perfect as well.

My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to eat for our last night in St Augustine. Having spent the last two days walking the streets downtown we didn't really feel like driving back downtown and paying to park so we decided to try the sunset grille, which was right next door to our hotel (Hilton Garden Inn). I admit, I was a bit skeptical at first assuming it would be like any typical tourist town "seafood" restaurant. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. We started with the calamari, not the best I've had, but very good for the price and a good portion ( could have easily shared with 4). For the main course I had the shrimp lovers platter which came with 12 shrimp, 4 fried and grilled. Both were very good and the shrimp were good size, at least 21/25 if not bigger. My gf had the seared scallops appetizer for her entree. It comes with some sort of soy sauce and wasabi, which gives it a sort of sushi taste, very tasty. Overall it was a very good experience, good service, good food and a fun atmosphere. Would definitely eat here again.

We were a party of two for dinner and there was a wait, but it was just as long as they said it would be and it was well worth it. There are benches to sit on while you wait. There was no wait outside but it was chilly so we opted for indoor seating. Everything we ordered was excellent. Crab Bisque, Clam Chowder - both hearty and flavorful; Coconut Shrimp was fresh and the sauce good. They had a tropical salad (with cranberries & mandarin oranges) - it was so-so, There were no frills on it, but I don't think anyone goes there for the salad! Service was fast and friendly. The table next to us ordered the Seafood Enchiladas and raved about them also.

this was a nice dinner. the clam chowder? is award winning according to the sign, and my tastebuds would agree. the cocoanut shrimp? was a nice FRESH surprize. the fish sandwich was great too. they should offer to give add ons to the baked potato. we would've gladly paid a little more for chives, bacon, butter and sour cream. the waitress hurried off very quickly, so we didn't even get to ask her. very very busy, and we sat outside. really great atmosphere, and lovely cool breeze. had a few beers, and then walked back to our hotel. nice evening. thanks!

Excellent food, very very very good prices, the service was over the top attentive and super nice. The steak was yummi and the chicken fajitas were amazing . I just didn't like waiting for almost 20 minutes for a table. But yeah, food is amazing,.

Went here after a nice relaxing day at the beach. We chose it specifically because of the fact that it was newer looking than most of the other seafood spots along A1A and so we figured it had to be decent. Even after experience has told me that a hole in the wall can have the best food ever, we didn't wanna risk it since we were after some seafood and didn't wanna live with the consequences of bad seafood. So to start off with, there was about a 30 minute wait, but since the scenery was nice and the weather was perfect, we didn't mind chilling in the shaded porch area out front till we were ready to be seated. After being seated, the atmosphere seemed more like your basic Red Lobster/Ale House. Very simple, lots of wood walls/furniture and lots of booths. So, my paramore was craving some oysters. I warned her that oysters shouldn't be consumed in months without Rs in it, but after googling that myth, we came to find out that the only reason you shouldn't eat oysters during those months is that they are normally reproducing around this time of the year and won't be as juicy and plump as they could be. They turn out flaccid and small. And as the oysters came to the table, we realized that the new information we received was quite true as the oysters were flaccid and small, but still edible. With a little horseraddish and tobasco, they were much better. We also ordered their "Award Winning" soups, the Clam Chowder and the Crab Bisque. Now after having my share of chowders and bisques, I have come to find out that either they are too salty (from being reduced down too much from being in the pot all day) or just too bland. These soups were actually pretty good! The chowder had a robust savory flavor. You could taste the bacon (which is part of the base) and the spices. The Bisque was very delicate with small chunks of real crab. It was actually one of the better crab bisques I've had. So far so good. We were still hungry so decided to get an entree also. We decided on the shrimp and grits since it looked pretty good on everyone else's table. They do it a bit differently. They take the cheese and grits and then form it into a triangle grit cake, fry it, then serve it in a soup with some cherry tomatoes, celery, cheese and the shrimp. It was a pretty cool idea, but after taking a couple of bites, I thought the grit cake was the best part and that the soup it was served in could have been better. The shrimp were about 30-35U/medium size and weren't very flavorful at all. The true star of the dish was the grit cakes. We were full after that and the side Caesar Salad. So, after everything we experienced, I would say it wasn't bad at all. Great start, OK finish. Didn't try any dessert. Service was really good. Waitress knew everything and was on top of the refills. I noticed that the busboy was really eager to do his job. Always asking to take away plates or bowls. After a while, it became annoying seeing him pace back and forth through the area searching for empty plates.

Had lunch here and it was so good we came back for dinner the same day. Every serving was very generous. We had Seafood Pizza and cold peel n eat shrimp. There was great weather this day and we sat in the inside seat yourself area. The windows were open and the sea breeze was great. At dinner my wife had Shrimp and Grits for the first time after wanting to try it for a long time. It was great I do not think anyone makes it like this. The grits were deep fried in large wedges. Very tasty. I had the Sunset Oysters. Very well cooked and seasons. We will definitely be back.

Not a place to eat. Not a place to eat. Not a place to eat. All the food looked like it had been pre-cooked by Sysco, and then reheated at the restaurant. Place is in a great location, has a well stocked bar, and gets one star just for being on St, Augustine beach.

We had 14 ppl call ahead to get tables ready for dinner. When we arrived we were tld it would be 30 minutes. 35 minutes later I walked in to check in with the hostess. I was super nice.. It was our first night of 7 nights at the beach and everyone was in high spirits. When I said it had been almost 40 mins and wanted to check in on the remaining time, she got huffy and said really nasty "uhm actually it's been 37 minutes and you were told 1.5 hours." I politely corrected her bc we were told 30 mins and she got loud ad nasty insisting we weren't and we would hav to wait like everyone else. Mind you we watched probably 10 parties go in and get sat. No one cared about the $500 table waiting outside in the heat. A different person came out and said 10 mins well have an upstairs table out together. 20 mins later we Decided to leave. The hostess stalked us outside and said "if you would just WAIT well have it available." when my cousin told her no Ty were leaving she cocked her head up and rolled her eyes at him! Nasty person. Great food but beware the dark haired troll.

Mediocre to just bad. Avoid gooey, tasteless pasta and fish with no flavor by sticking to beer and bisque. Service was good and the bar was hopping. It is always a mystery why a restaurant with good ingredients and good staff forgets how to cook - expediency? I won't be back.

Locals, locals, locals....I didn't understand the iffy(review), plus the reviewer had an opportunity to use spell check and didn't. Look when I'm in Saint Augustine, I usually stay near this restaurant and eat there often. You can't go wrong with local caught seafood and there salads are outstanding. They sell a heck of a lot of burgers too. I'm told the greek grouper is wonderful while I tend to eat the grouper sandwich. I like this place and they have a steady strong business. I'll go back again and again.

An incredible dinner. My hubby and I and our infant daughter were in twn from California. We came across this restaurant and am so glad we tried it. Service was AMAZING!! Heather was so great.... The food- delicious! I had the crab legs and my husband the baby back ribs. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Perfect!!

I don't think anyone got sick but this was a truly uninsipred meal. Strike 1 margartia with only a flavor of diluted sour mix and salt. Stirke 2 overly seasoned balckened chicken breast Strike 3 Homemade Cesar dressing with small chuncks of green olive ? WFT?!? Ok, may be should be one star, but it wasn't that bad; just not a good value, good food or good drinks. The people were nice though.

Not bad for a beach side place. The food was decent - coconut shrimp were tasty but a little on the smaller side. The fish sandwich was very unique but tasty. The margaritas need to be stronger.

This definitely is not what I thought it was going to be. We arrived and they wouldn't let us sit outside because of the expected rain storm.....ok, fine, understandable. It took a little while longer than it should have to get our drink order taken. The food was OK. I had the chicken sandwich which was really good, but my friends had the shrimp platter. The shrimp were cold, the fried shrimp were soggy and the rice and beans are a do not. I'd recommend eating somewhere else along the strip. Even Beachcombers or Hattie's had better food.

Had a great experience!! There was a very reasonable wait for 7pm on a holiday, and plenty of space to wait with a drink at the bar in the mean time! Our waiter, Lex was very pleasant, and the crab legs we had we delicious & reasonably priced. Fun, lively, casual atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!

We found it by accident, thought we were going to another place with a similar name but very happy with our accidental find. We had the fried fish sandwich and grilled chicken sandwich with spinach and feta. Both had really outstanding flavors. It is hard to keep flavor in a fried dish but this fish had the flavor and it was a very, very large piece of fish. The grilled chicken too was flavored perfectly and a very nice size portion as well. So often we find the flavors too mild or lacking (probably to appeal to the masses) and we were delighted with our dishes. We waited a little while for our food but thought it was fresh and definitely worth the wait.
